Job Title: Community Wellness Veterinarian (Part-Time)
Location: New Hampshire SPCA: Stratham, NH
Schedule: Part-Time, Two days per week (Flexible Monday-Friday), 8:30am-4:30pm

Hourly Rate: TBD based on experience
Position Overview:
The New Hampshire SPCA, the oldest and largest non-profit animal welfare agency in New Hampshire, is seeking a compassionate and dedicated part-time veterinarian to provide community wellness services in our newly established Veterinary Center. This role will include routine wellness exams, vaccinations, microchipping, sick visits, and accessible euthanasia services. The ideal candidate will be passionate about accessible veterinary services utilizing a spectrum of care to care for both pets and people. Connected to our Adoption Center, the new NHSPCA Veterinary Center boasts a spacious surgical suite, a dental suite, dental x-rays, full x-ray capabilities, in-house labs, and three exam rooms.
Responsibilities:
- Provide compassionate and quality preventive and basic veterinary care, including physical examinations, diagnostics, treatment recommendations, and medication prescriptions.
- Utilize low-stress handling techniques.
- Triage cases and apply the spectrum of care as appropriate.
- Perform humane euthanasia for medical and behavioral cases.
- Perform dental procedures, including extractions.
- Effectively communicate with clients in a non-judgmental and professional manner, discussing exam results and treatment options to support informed decision-making.
- Counsel clients on end-of-life and other sensitive medical concerns.
- Provide clear discharge instructions for patients and oversee medication dispensing.
- Accurately document exam findings, test results, and treatment plans.
Requirements:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited college or university.
- Active New Hampshire Veterinary license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
- Understanding and dedication to the philosophies of spectrum of care.
- Ability to work independently and within a team, managing multiple tasks and shifting priorities.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong communication skills and professionalism in all aspects of work.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and build productive relationships with staff, clients, and board members.
Work Environment:
- Work is primarily performed in a shelter clinic setting with exposure to zoonotic diseases, high noise levels in the kennel area, and potential for animal bites or scratches.
- Physical demands may include lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for long periods, sitting for extended hours, kneeling, and performing physical exams on animals, some with behavioral concerns.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with High-Quality, High-Volume Spay/Neuter (HQHVSN) and dental extractions is preferred.
