The New Hope-Solebury High School is seeking a Secondary High School Guidance Counselor to provide direct support and guidance to students in grades 9-12, promoting their academic, personal, social, and emotional development. This role will involve working with students individually and in groups, providing crisis intervention, facilitating college and career readiness, and collaborating with families, teachers, and administrators to support student success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist students in academic planning, course selection, and scheduling.
- Collaborate with staff and administrators on student placement and scheduling processes.
- Provide interventions to support student academic progress.
- Plan and administer College Board and state assessments, including PSAT, Keystone Exams, and Advanced Placement (AP) exams.
- Guide students through the developmental counseling process to foster intellectual, social, and personal growth.
- Help students make informed decisions regarding social, educational, and vocational paths.
- Provide assistance throughout the college selection process, including application guidance and financial aid resources.
- Support students in developing post-secondary plans, including college, trade programs, and career paths.
- Prepare students for successful transitions from high school to the next academic or career step.
- Develop and deliver guidance curricula within classroom settings.
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions in various settings to support students' emotional well-being.
- Work closely with parents, teachers, and community members to support students' academic and personal growth.
- Use effective communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Participate in student intervention models and collaborate on multi-disciplinary teams to support students in need.
- Respond to student crises with appropriate support and referrals.
- Develop and implement wellness programs and student support initiatives aligned with the district’s goals.
Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field.
- Certification: Pennsylvania Department of Education Certification in Secondary Guidance Counseling is required.
- Experience in a high school setting, providing individual and group counseling (preferred)
- Familiarity with developmental counseling models and student intervention frameworks.
- Expertise in planning and administering College Board exams (PSAT, AP) and state assessments (Keystone) Preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with college and career readiness.
