New Horizons in Autism, Inc (NHIA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing diverse opportunities to enhance the quality of life for adults with autism since 1980 throughout Bergen, Monmouth, and Ocean Counties.
Lead :
The Lead staff will report directly to the Residential Manager. The Lead Staff will be required to but not limited to provide direct care services to individuals with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities. Lead Staff will assist in driving, personal care, activities of daily living (ADLs), ISP goals and objectives, implementing behavior plans, monitoring the individuals, assisting with meal preparation, medication administration, electronic documentation, van maintenance, creating staff schedules, creating activity schedules, monitoring funds, Residential related reporting and documentation, supervising, perform Residential Management duties if necessary, assist in meeting the criteria of Licensing, community integration and job development / off site job training (if applicable).
Examples of Duties Performed :
- Lead Staff are required to follow a daily schedule of activities that have been designed to assist all individuals with outlining their day.
- All Lead Staff must also remember the slogan “safety first” and be the best safety manager that they can be.
- Lead Staff will transport the individuals from there residential setting into NHIA Day Habilitation program five days per week. Lead Staff will also transport the individuals to agency functions and community activities.
- Lead Staff will remain on shift until relieved in emergency situations (i.e., hospitalization of individuals, inclement weather).

You must have and use sound judgment and tact and effectively communicate with individuals with autism.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Education : High School Diploma and a minimum of 20 years of age.
B.A. or B.S. in Special Education, Psychology or Social Work or related field.
Experience : One year experience in working with a person with intellectual and / or developmental disabilities (IDD).
Communication Skills : Must be able to respectfully communicate well both verbally and in writing with service recipients, all levels of staff, family members, and community partners.
Judgment / Initiative : Must be able to use good judgment in dealing with service recipient’s issues / emergencies, as well as staff related concerns. Must work well to maintain a good working relationship with supervisors.
