Position Summary
New Horizons is seeking an exceptional Engagement Services Coordinator to staff weekly Day Program operations and enthusiastically develop and facilitate new engagement programming & activities for young adults (YA) experiencing homelessness.
We are looking for someone with experience in program development, small-scale event planning and group facilitation.
Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 11 am - 9 pm (10-hour days, 4 days per week)
Primary Responsibilities
Day Program Staffing
- Staff Day Program Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 3-8pm and Wednesday 2-8pm including set up and tear down
- Foster a warm and welcoming environment for YA to get their needs met, engage with support systems, and get connected to resources
- Proactively engage YA through intentional conversations and engaging activities
- Take pride in the physical space; ensure drop-in space is clean and organized, supplies are stocked, flyers and materials are up to date, and make suggestions for ongoing spatial improvements
- Work in collaboration with the other staff on the floor to ensure all aspects of program are covered
- Complete timely intakes and re-enrollments for new clients
- Check-in all program participants on HMIS database
- Regularly communicate and model expectations and protocols for YA
- Apply consequences and hotlist protocol
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the downstairs space including laundry room
- Be flexible and willing to cover other aspects of program as need (example: serving lunch or dinner)
- Train new Direct Service Volunteers as assigned
Engagement Programming
- Develop and facilitate two Engagement Programs a week (examples include, but are not limited to Writers Group, Music Group, Cooking Club, etc...)
- Monitor effectiveness of programming, and generate ideas on how to make improvements
- Work with the Engagement Services Team (EST) to schedule events geared at bringing resources to our young adults
- Work with the EST to plan, facilitate and host holiday parties and monthly birthday parties
- Schedule community partners to conduct tabling to provide resources to our clients
- Facilitate a Youth Advisory Board, or similar initiative, to gather feedback from clients
Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
- Strong competence and application of Conflict De-escalation
- Strong track record applying the principles of Trauma Informed Care and Positive Youth Development
- Experience providing culturally responsive services and quality care to LGBTQ youth, youth of color, and young women
- Non-judgmental and enthusiastic attitude about engaging with young people across the spectrum of religious and spiritual beliefs, race, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation and gender
- A history of demonstrated teamwork skills and initiative
- Proficient with computers and technology including using the Microsoft 365 suite (Word, Excel, SharePoint and Outlook)
- Experience in Program Development
- Experience in Group Facilitation
- Ability to work late into the evening
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
- Three or more years of experience working with homeless youth and young adults. A bachelor's degree in social work, Psychology, Sociology or another closely related field is preferred.
- Proficiency with Clarity Homeless Management Information System (HMIS)
