What are the responsibilities and job description for the Therapist Music position at New Jersey Department of Health?
This title completes patient programming both in group and individual forms. Implements clinical and evidence-based practices using music within a therapeutic relationship to address physical, psychological, cognitive, and social needs of individuals. Constructs therapeutic music-based exercises to optimize function and/or reroute neuropathways to achieve functionality. Activities are planned to support patients in their wellness journey within the maximum security setting utilizing the knowledge gained from a specialty in neurologic music therapy, entailing extensive training in the neuroscience of music perception, music production/creation, and music cognition. Complete patient assessments utilizing the most recent research and best practices to determine strengths and areas for growth. Employee will also be expected to interface with treatment teams and other staff.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree with a major course of study in music, music therapy or music education.
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of professional experience in a Music Therapy Program.
NOTE: A Master's degree in music therapy or creative music therapy or music education with a specialization in music therapy may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
