The New Lenox Public Library is looking for a friendly, collaborative, and enthusiastic self-starter to join our Library team. This part-time Youth Services Specialist role will provide service to children and their families, caregivers, and educators through reference interactions, readers' advisory, programming, and more. How You’ll Contribute:
The Youth Services Specialist is responsible for:
- Interacting directly with the public and staff to provide friendly, high-quality customer service
- Staffing the Youth Services Reference Desk up to 75 percent of scheduled hours
- Providing reference and readers advisory services specializing in children’s literature and pop culture
- Participating in collection development by selecting and ordering new library materials as assigned
- Providing research assistance to patrons of all ages
- Presenting programming to children ages birth through eighth grade and their families
- Designing and providing engaging activities that help young people develop their creativity, interest, and talent
- Promoting and nurturing the habit of reading
- Places holds for patrons
- Attends library training and continuing education as needed
- Supports patrons’ use of library services
- Performing other duties as required
Requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, LTA Certificate, or one year equivalent experience
- Customer service experience
- Public library experience working with patrons of all ages preferred
- Familiarity with both fiction and non-fiction literature for youth collections
- Knowledge of digital services offered
- Enthusiasm to create a friendly, courteous, pleasant environment
- Comfortable handling multiple tasks and prioritizing workflows
- Passion to work with the public in a positive manner
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a typical library environment. Must have valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance or have the ability to arrange own transportation between library and other locations as needed.

- Salary range: $17.44 - $21.80 per hour (midpoint); internal equity is used in determining the rate of pay

This part-time position is scheduled for 20 hours per week with the following schedule:
Sundays: 12-4
Mondays: 9-1
Wednesdays: 9-1
Fridays: 9-4
The selected candidate will report to the Youth Services Manager.
