POSITION SUMMARY
The Sixth Grade Teacher is responsible for creating a supportive and engaging learning environment that fosters academic, social, and spiritual growth in alignment with the California State standards and the Diocese of San Diego Religion Standards. The teacher will implement a curriculum that promotes the development of students' knowledge, skills, and values, integrating technology and differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning needs. The role also requires collaboration with colleagues, regular communication with parents, and active participation in professional development and school community events.
Position will start at the beginning of the school year - August 2025.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching and Instructional Leadership:
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with California State and Diocese Religion Standards.
- Create a positive classroom environment that supports student engagement and growth.
- Tailor instruction to meet diverse learning needs, emphasizing academic, social, and emotional development.
- Integrate hands-on activities and educational technology (e.g., Google Classroom, IXL Learning) to enhance learning experiences.
- Maintain effective classroom management strategies that promote positive behavior and productivity.
- Establish routines to encourage student independence and accountability.
- Use formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress and communicate results to parents through reports and conferences.
- Maintain accurate records, including grades and attendance.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate regularly with parents via newsletters and meetings.
- Collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional strategies and lesson planning.
Spiritual Development:
- Lead daily prayers and integrate Catholic teachings into classroom activities.
- Plan class Masses and submit Mass Planning Sheets.
Leadership and Coordination Responsibilities:
- Contribute to leadership initiatives, including participation in WCEA/WASC committee opportunities, supporting faculty with best practices, assisting in the hiring process, and helping to organize the school schedule.
- Organize 6th grade camp logistics, including coordinating dates, transportation, and parent meetings, and supervise students during camp activities.
- Lead student council activities, oversee elections and meetings, and guide students in developing leadership skills and organizing school events.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Submit and update lesson plans to align with curriculum standards.
- Adhere to school policies and procedures.
- Supervise students during recess, lunch, and other assigned duties.
- Complete assigned tasks promptly and effectively throughout the academic year.
Professional Development:
- Actively participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay current with best practices in elementary education.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Proficiency in developing and implementing lesson plans aligned with California State standards and Diocese of San Diego Religion Standards.
- Strong ability to establish a positive classroom culture and maintain effective classroom management strategies.
- Expertise in tailoring instruction to accommodate various learning styles and abilities.
- Skill in collecting, analyzing, and utilizing student data to inform instructional decisions.
- Proficient in using educational technology tools such as Google Classroom, IXL Learning, Accelerated Learning, Wonders ELA Program, and Sadler Vocabulary.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Understanding of Catholic school philosophy and ability to incorporate religious teachings into daily activities.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, manage time effectively, and respond promptly to communication.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- College degree in elementary education or a related field
- Cleared California Credential, preferred multi-subject (or ability to obtain)
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Practicing Catholic with a strong understanding of Catholic values (preferred)
- Two (2) or more years of experience teaching in elementary education, preferably in a Catholic or faith-based school setting.
