Sales Associate/Sorter Job Description
Position: South Thrift Store Sales Associate/Sorter
Full-time/Part-time: Looking to fill two part-time positions:
- 15 hours per week, Monday - Saturday, this position is part-time and involves working a combination of shifts, evenings and weekends, evening hours are between the hours of 4 PM-7:15 PM and Saturday hours are between the hours of 8:45 AM-5:15 pm.
- 20-32 hours per week, Monday - Saturday, this position is part-time and involves working a combination of shifts, between the hours of 8 AM - 7:15 PM during the week and 8:45 AM - 5:15 PM on Saturdays.

Reports to: Thrift Store Manager
FLSA Classification: Non-exempt
Starting Hourly Wage: $15.00/hour
Summary
New Life Center Sales Associate/Sorter is responsible for ensuring a positive shopping experience for all customers. This will be accomplished by providing a warm welcome to the store; maintaining a clean well-organized, well-stocked sales floor; locating desired items on the sales floor; fast friendly and accurate processing of purchases; assisting in other areas of the store and warehouse, as needed. The Sales Associate/Sorter will be cross-trained in all areas of the production and retail environment to include, but not limited to providing excellent customer service, cash-handling procedures, processing donated goods, sorting, pricing and stocking.
Essential Responsibilities
Essential Function 1: Sales Associate
- Be the face of the Thrift Store through providing great customer service, answering customer questions, and driving sales through pushing promotions and sales.
- Ensure the accuracy of the cash drawer at beginning and end of day.
- Process customer transactions and collect payment.
- Maintain assigned areas of the store to ensure areas are clean, organized, and customer friendly.
- Stock sales floor with priced merchandise and clothing.
- Clean and maintain fitting room.
Essential Function 2: Sorter
- Provide friendly service to donors by assisting them with unloading their donated goods; offer tax receipt.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the production area.
- Sorts through donations, evaluate the quality, and determines the price of donated goods.
- Determine quality and value of donated goods to price items accurately and consistent with store guidelines.
- Provides direction to Staff or Volunteers on stocking shelves or racks and locating items on the sales floor.
- Ensure the sales floor is stocked, organized, and attractive to shoppers.
- Answer customer questions and assist customers as needed.
- Assist Warehouse Staff with organization of donated goods in appropriate places.
Position Reports to Morgan Kasin, Thrift Store Manager
Morgan joined New Life Center’s thrift store team in 2017. After managing our north store for a short time, Morgan transitioned to our south location when it opened in 2022. Years of experience working in retail equipped her for this position. Morgan oversees staff, volunteers, training, scheduling, and product pricing.

Additional Eligibility Requirements
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
Work Environment
- This position functions in a thrift store and warehouse setting where medium duty equipment such as forklifts are in use; appropriate safety considerations will be required to avoid injury.
- Ability to lift loads up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
