Position Summary
The Communications and Marketing Director position is full-time, 40 hours per week (exempt, benefits eligible) and will primarily take place at all of our locations. The Communications and Marketing Director is responsible for the development of promotional materials and increasing awareness of NLC work, goals, opportunities, and financial needs through its multiple communication platforms. May require some local travel (reimbursable). Pay commensurate with experience. This position is in-person.
Job Responsibilities
- Create and execute communication strategies for NLC to support NLC’s messaging for its multiple audiences. Including: Printed and digital communication pieces, publications, merchandise, and materials. Website and social medial platforms. Relevant newsletters, statements, and letters. Grant applicant content.
- Collaborate with the Development Department and other NLC staff to align external engagement for overall communication implementation and partner engagement.
- Incorporate community-centric communications strategy in alignment with NLC values and goals, including implementing bilingual communication across all relevant platforms.
- Support communication efforts for special events and partner engagement initiatives.
- Edit and review content for grammar, punctuation, and tone.
- Direct and coordinate purposeful communication internships.
- Develop relationships with partners to align communications with NLC varied audiences and cultivate ongoing relationships, involvement, and support.
- Conduct public appearances and speaking engagements as needed to share info about NLC with community and partners.
- Evaluate the success of communication methods for events and use analysis to recommend adjustments as needed to improve future efforts.
- Continue to investigate new ideas and methods for personal professional growth as well as partner engagement and communication goals.
- Ensure all legal communication requirements are satisfied.
- Is a main contact person for marketing efforts.
- Produces documents, receipts and correspondence regarding activities and progress as necessary.
- Approves credit card report and timecard.
- Supervision includes on-site visits, regular check-ins, and break-out planning meetings.
- Maintains accuracy of budget and spending plan for the department.
- Participates in required evaluations.
- Prepares materials for required audits.
- Demonstrates New Life Centers’ values.
- Attends required meetings and trainings.
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Skills & Qualifications
- Must become a Certified Mandated Reporter. Training provided.
- Must pass a background check, must not have any pending cases.
- Must pass a Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking System background check.
- Must pass a National Sex Offender Registry background check.
- Must have a working phone and phone number.
- Excellent strength in writing and organizational skills. Excellent grammar, spelling, copy-editing, and proofreading skills.
- Comfortable in creating presentations and providing direction for creation of videos and communication materials.
- Proactive to initiate projects and exhibits follow through on tasks and goals.
- Cross-cultural competency.
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
- Ability to effectively work independently, problem-solve, multi-task and take initiative.
- High organization and detail-oriented skill ability.
- Knowledge of other software a plus.
- Basic level of skill set in Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, Outlook), Apple based application and computing skills and Google Software Suite.
- Must be willing to be trained, and proficiently utilize systems relevant to duties.
- Must keep confidentiality of participant information.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Valid Illinois driver’s license, insurance, good driving record, access to a vehicle. Subject to driving background check.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
