The New Mexico WIC Program, Department of Health and Food and Nutrition Bureau safeguards the health of nutritionally at-risk low-income pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infant, children and seniors by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, nutrition information for healthy eating, health counseling, breastfeeding support, nutrition classes, cooking classes, and referrals to health care providers and social services.
Why does the job exist?
The Purchasing Agent-A will be responsible for providing financial and administrative support to the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), WIC and Seniors Farmers Market Programs, Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program and WIC Regional field staff.
How does it get done?
Purpose of the position is to serve as part of the Women, Infants, and Children's (WIC) State Office Finance team, which encompass an annual budget of approximately $57 million. Position's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, contracts--maintain all contract information and processes; primary agent for contract creation/amendments, provider agreements, RFPs, and ITBs; preparing requisitions, processing payment vouchers, processing operating transfers, processing and tracking change orders, requesting quotes from vendors for goods or services. Daily ACH reconciliations, inventory, monitoring and timely payment of contracts, travel requests, inventory, and financial reports from SHARE. Supporting the WIC field staff with orders, PO, JE and MOU/MOA and lease agreements. Assist with budget forecasting.
Microsoft Excel (and using pivot tables) is also used extensively along with SHARE reporting in gathering data from programs for monthly, quarterly, and annual data reports.

WIC staff support, clients, vendors, Food and Nutrition Services (FNS), and community partners.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience with SHARE Financial, Contracts, Budgets, Purchase Orders, Purchasing, and Invoicing. Ability to prioritize tasks and deadlines. Ability to multitask, work as a team, and communicate effectively.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Business or Accounting and Finance and two (2) years of experience in accounting, finance, purchasing, procurement, and/or warehouse clerking. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Work is performed primarily in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer to include working with computers, faxes, copiers and printers, and phone usage with extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
