INTRODUCTION

The New Mexico House of Representatives Democratic Majority Office seeks energetic and dedicated candidates for policy analyst positions during the 2025 Legislative Session, from January 20th to March 22nd. Analysts play a pivotal role in the legislative process by analyzing the content, form, and potential impact of legislation. Analysts produce written synopsis and analysis of legislation assigned to the analyst’s committee. Analysts work both independently and as part of a larger team.

CHARACTERISTICS OF SUCESSFUL CANDIDATES

A successful candidate will have a demonstrated can-do attitude, minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, attention to detail, excellent oral and written communication skills, knowledge of computer applications, and the ability to work cooperatively in fast-paced environments. Law degree or professional experience relevant to a Committee’s jurisdiction are preferred characteristics. Analysts will be assigned to a House Committee and will need to quickly understand and summarize proposed bills and convey their impact through their written analysis. Knowledge of the legislative process is a plus, but not required.

POSITION DETAILS

Analyst positions are short-term, temporary positions and do not offer benefits. Analysts may work evenings or weekends depending on committee schedules and may be working both onsite or remotely. Legislative employees must comply with the Governmental Conduct Act and other applicable laws and policies. Legislative employees are exempt from the State Personnel Act and from the federal Fair Labor Standards Act.

Job Type: Temporary

Pay: From $30.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed
