Classification Summary:
Primarily responsible for directing the operational, financial, regulatory, human resource and business activities of a large major externally funded research division with multiple reporting units. Oversees all research activities within the domain of the division. These activities will include analyzing, modifying, and developing improved structure as needed.
Classification Standard Duties:
Provide oversight direction and leadership for contract maintenance, renewal, and new contract acquisition successes. Ensure adherence to and compliance with applicable state, Federal and other government regulations, and expectations of other regulatory agencies and funding source. Responsible for development and maintenance of inter-institutional/governmental relationships, and other external bodies important to the future success of the research. Accountable for implementing and monitoring approved operations budget. Responsible for the supervision and management of multiple levels of technical, professional, administrative and support staff within the division.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of the Physical Science Laboratory's Telemetry and Missile Systems Division at NMSU is accountable for project execution and program oversight of multiple contracts, strategic planning, customer satisfaction and financial administration. This position is also responsible for the design, production, quality and financial oversight of the Telemetry Products Line. This position will have a direct interface with internal NMSU customers, external customers, suppliers and NMSU/PSL Leadership. This role includes responsibility for guiding employees in their work, motivating them to perform their best, and fostering a team environment. The Director will also be responsible for leading the division to achieve NMSU Leads 2025 Goals. This includes enhancing student success through student outreach and developing student programs; elevating research and creativity through research development of new technologies in the area of telemetry; amplifying extension and outreach into the community; and building a more robust University system by focusing on improving internal design, fabrication, testing and documentation processes.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with managing the fabrication prototype and production units. Experience managing engineer and technical staff that design, manufacture and test flight systems. Experience with facilitating DoD contracts and programs. Familiarity with test and integration processes and launch/flight operations. Technical familiarity and/or skills in some or all of production and processes and practices, quality management, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering (analog, digital and RF), computer programming.
DoD Secret Clearance.

Travel is required.
Ability to obtain a DoD clearance and maintain clearance throughout employment.
