NOTE: $1.50/hr additional for overnight differential
Purpose: (General description and summary): Provides supportive mental health services as described in Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) for adults with moderate to severe mental wellness challenges within residential and supportive housing settings. This includes supporting residents in their individual recovery goals, assisting with medication management, and ensuring a clean and safe environment.
As an On-Call Support Specialist, you will support a minimum requirement of five shifts a month. In this position, you will support a variety of residential and supportive housing sites as well as service recipients through providing coverage for sites that need staffing support. On-Call Support Specialists may also lead activities, assist in the implementation of treatment plan interventions and provide skills training and activities as assigned.
Work Environment: New Narrative's residential sites include numerous five to eleven bed homes that operate 24/7 to support our residents' treatment goals, needs and experiences. There are three shift options available to On-Call Support Specialists: day shift (7a to 3p), swing shift (3p to 11), and overnight shift (11p to 7a).
Accountabilities:
⦁ Supports coverage for a minimum of five shifts a month and responds to all coverage inquiries sent by phone call, text message or email within 24 hours.
⦁ Understands Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) regarding Home and Community Based mental health services, which guarantee residents a maximum level of freedom and personal rights and assists them with their person-centered treatment plan.
⦁ Assists residents with their goals as outlined in person-centered plans as well as their Residential Service Plans.
⦁ Ensures cleanliness and safety of the site (fire drills, security of house at night, resolving disputes among residents, etc.)
⦁ Supports residents through crisis as needed and assists with crisis intervention. Facilitates needed crisis contacts, including contacting and notifying appropriate treatment team members.
⦁ Assists residents with daily living skills such as keeping appointments, completing household tasks and assists residents as needed with completion of deep cleaning and laundry.
⦁ Distributes medication in accordance with prescribers’ orders and in line with New Narrative policy.
⦁ Supports residents with their individualized medication management goals, including encouraging residents to learn medication names, dosages, functions, and potential side effects.
⦁ Completes contraband checks as allowed by resident and in line with OARs and site schedules.
⦁ Documents all incidents and critical incidents in a timely manner and notifies site supervisor immediately of any critical incidents. Readily knows how and when to contact direct supervisor and site supervisor.
⦁ Completes all shift duties required by each individual facility.
⦁ Documents all interactions with residents during each shift according to policy and OARs. Completes shift summary and individual resident notes each shift.
⦁ Adheres to all New Narrative policies and procedures. Complies with all New Narrative safety rules and regulations.
⦁ Adheres to the NASW Code of Ethics.
⦁ Employees supporting any shift (ie overnight shift) must be awake, alert and dressed at all times.
⦁ Continually increases level of cultural sensitivity, awareness, and competency through trainings and continued education.
Other General Expectations:
⦁ Must have a criminal records clearance through the State Mental Health Division prior to starting employment.
⦁ Must be tested for tuberculosis within two weeks of date of hire.
⦁ Must undergo a minimum of 16 hours pre-service orientation at our residential sites, which will include: a review of site rules, residential policies and procedures, education on psychiatric disabilities, an overview of resident service arrangements, medication management and administration procedures, food service arrangements, a summary of resident’s assessment and residential service plan, Credible, and any other relevant information.
⦁ Will not work over 40 hours per week unless authorized by a supervisor.
⦁ Will report to work promptly and will adhere to all scheduling and attendance policies.
⦁ Regular in-service training on issues relevant to residential care for an equivalent of at least 8 hours a year. Training will be arranged by On-Call Program Manager.
⦁ Participates in required meetings, including team meetings & 1:1 supervisions with On-Call Program Manager.
⦁ Pursues ongoing development of skills and competencies.
⦁ Follows through on all directives and instructions.
⦁ Maintains security of site keys, files, and facility systems.
⦁ Will be required to work at other sites during times of temporary need.
