Position: Data Analyst

The Organization

Founded in 2017, the New Orleans Career Center (NOCC) is an independent nonprofit focused on career preparation and technical training for five industry sectors: Healthcare, Building Trades, Engineering and Manufacturing, Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management, and Digital Production.

NOCC partners with employers to design high school and adult courses aligned to high-demand employment. Every NOCC career path points toward entry-level jobs that pay higher than a living wage and offer real ladders to professional growth.

NOCC staff are often described as “experts” among K-12 career and technical education (CTE) and workforce training providers because of the successful efforts of the team since 2017. However, in the perspective of NOCC’s mission and vision, NOCC will continue to improve and solidify pipelines to good jobs for our training participants (trainees).

The Opportunity

The Data Specialist will play a critical role in advancing the mission of the New Orleans Career Center and will focus on the collecting, organizing, analyzing, and reporting of data relating to our programs and goals. This position provides exceptional data analysis, visualization, and storytelling support to the Director of Data and Special Projects to ensure that the best practices to gather and organize data are implemented. They will support and/or coordinate all phases of data management, including planning, executing, reporting, as well as monitoring and evaluating with a focus on continuous improvement, compliance, and security. The Data Specialist will work closely with internal teams to manage deadlines and delegate tasks to appropriate team members.

The position involves maintaining effective working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders and ensuring the proper sorting and organizing of various electronic databases. The scope and complexity of duties for this role will require the individual to exercise independent judgment, implement tasks, and communicate frequently with the Director of Data and Special Projects. This position requires exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills as well as exceptional data analysis, visualization, and storytelling skills.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • Spreadsheet magician: Considerable knowledge of common word processing, spreadsheet, and file maintenance programs, especially Google Apps, with the ability to troubleshoot independently.
  • A command, fluency, and/or mastery of sourcing, vetting, and scrubbing internal data toward effective macro and micro-data-driven decision making
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and commitment to the achievement of stated goals and outcomes on behalf of NOCC trainees and stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills and propensity for listening
  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy
  • Demonstrated fluency in data analysis, visualization, and storytelling
  • Proficiency in Data Analytics Tools: Hands-on experience with SQL, Python, R, or other programming languages for data analysis and automation.
  • Strong Project Management Skills: Ability to manage multiple data projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and ensuring accuracy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND MINDSETS

Support Data System Development and Reporting

(1) Internal Data Reporting

  • Create a wide range of data visualizations and analysis promptly to support reflection and meaning-making across teams and roles.
  • Create and share attendance summaries yearly and as needed
  • Create and update NOCC Data Dashboard monthly
  • Fulfill data requests from directors and executive leadership, e.g. MARCOMM, development, or grant-related requests
  • Develop, implement, analyze, and report on Trainee Feedback Surveys every quarter
  • Distribute and monitor the completion of internal Trainee- and Staff-Facing surveys

(2) External Data Reporting and Communication

  • Participate in Data Community of Practice or other data initiatives or collaboratives, at the direction of the Chief Strategy Officer
  • Update YouthForce NOLA-requested information and annual request for applications (RFA)
  • Update Tops Tech Early Start and Jump Start Diploma student information
  • Submit Supplemental Course Allocation information on an initial and quarterly basis
  • Communicate with and support partner schools regarding Trainee Enrollment
  • Report grades, attendance, and credentials earned for schools, funders, and Board members.
  • Collect data from school partners, including Score Reports - ACT, Practice ACT, LEAP, and WorkKeys. Student transcripts, IGPs, BIPs, IEP/504 plans, bell schedules, student schedules, and school calendars.
  • Compliance & Data Governance: Ensure adherence to data privacy laws, grant reporting requirements, and organizational policies related to data security and governance.

Manage Program Data Systems and Processes

  • Stakeholder Training & Support: Provide training sessions and user support to staff on data systems, dashboards, and reporting tools to enhance data literacy across the organization.
  • Data Quality Assurance: Ensure the accuracy and integrity of data by conducting routine audits, identifying inconsistencies, and implementing data validation protocols.
  • Process Automation & Efficiency Improvements: Develop and implement automated data collection, reporting, and visualization tools to streamline workflows and reduce manual processes.
  • Develop key data-related skills and knowledge, including leveraging tools like Tableau, ETO, Excel, and other software programs
  • Examples of data and processes: Collect LASIDs (Louisiana Student Identification number), industry-based certifications (IBC) from instructors, forms required by the industry for work-based learning (Immunization forms, IDs, birth certificates, background checks, fingerprints, etc.)
  • Organization Priorities and Leadership Team Create and maintain tools like reports and dashboards and inform strategic, data-driven decisions by NOCC leaders in collaboration with the Director of Data and Special Projects and in response to input/feedback from other staff.
  • Transition, Employment, and Alumni Data Collaborate with Transition Coordinator, program coordinators, and Director of Data and Special Projects (DDSP) to track, analyze, and report trainee and alumni information
  • High School Training: Track and maintain High School Programming application information, then ensure daily that attendance is taken for each session by instructors
  • Adult Training: Monitor and report Adult Training Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) usage and create concise reports
  • Assist in the implementation of data systems and access with instructors, program coordinators, and success coaches. Conduct audits of data systems and reports regularly, then report them to the appropriate audiences.
  • Collaborate with program coordinators, DEP, and others to problem-solve tracking and data challenges
  • Assist in the implementation of ETO and other data initiatives.

This role is supervised by the Director of Data and Special Projects

Compensation and Benefits

Competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. NOCC also offers a competitive benefits package that includes 80% employer-paid health insurance, long- and short-term disability insurance, 401K, 10 days of paid time off over NOCC org-wide breaks (30 days), and professional development resources and opportunities.
