What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Reporting Manager position at New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center?
The Financial Reporting Manager is responsible for the proper financial recording of general ledger transactions to ensure the accurate preparation of financial statements and other required reports for the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center (MCCNO). This individual is also responsible for supervising the Financial Reporting staff, assisting with analytical projects, and preparing for the year end external audit.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Develop and maintain a system of financial controls principles, practices and procedures to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Obtain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
- Identify and communicate risks and issues impacting financial reporting compliance.
- Manage process changes in order to improve efficiencies in work processes and to reduce work in low value activities.
- Serve as an online bank account administrator and assist with transfers and balance maintenance.
Lead the month-end, year-end and audit process including preparation of consolidated financial statements, footnotes and supporting documentation.
- Ensure that general ledger transactions are recorded in accordance with governmental and state guidelines.
- Review month and year-end financial statements and reports to ensure compliance with GASB, GAAP, and regulatory agencies.
- Disseminate approved reports according to agreed-upon schedules.
- Maintain relationship with external auditors to ensure deadlines for year-end reporting are met.
Collaborate with other members of the Financial Services Division to support overall department goals and objectives
- Assist in the resolution of complex accounting issues.
- Support budget and forecasting activities.
- Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
- Lead analytical reporting of actual results vs. budgets.
- Create and manage financial models.
Interact with other departments to discuss, implement and review MCCNO policies and procedures to ensure that all parties are aware of MCCNO requirements and expectations to achieve operational efficiency.
ACCOUNTABILITIES FOR SUPERVISION
- Participate in decisions related to the selection, promotion, transfer, pay and discipline of assigned personnel.
- Orient employees to MCCNO policies and procedures, clearly communicate job duties and responsibilities so individuals may proceed with certainty in the performance of their positions.
- Personally conduct or oversee training for new employees to ensure established procedures are clearly understood and followed.
- Monitor the work performance of assigned personnel on a continual basis, conduct effective performance appraisals, and take corrective action whenever necessary.
- Create a working climate in which assigned personnel are motivated to develop their skills and abilities and demonstrate by personal example the desired standards of conduct and work performance.
- Administer MCCNO policies in a fair and equitable manner with regard to discipline, tardiness, absenteeism or insubordination and fully document all incidents and actions taken.
