We are seeking an enthusiastic professional Adjunct Instructor of History who is passionate about cultivating the school's mission and objectives through student instruction, guidance and review in order to ensure successful development of each student. Because of our commitment to community, employment preference is given to residents who live in WV and the New River Community Technical College service area.
This position is a part-time position and will report directly to the Dean . The position will work collaboratively with management, faculty and staff within the department and college to serve the best interests of the students.
Job Summary
Adjunct faculty members serve multiple roles as teachers, mentors, colleagues, and scholars. Adjunct faculty are expected to excel in the classroom instruction and to fulfill various responsibilities related to their assigned teaching duties.
Nature of Work
The adjunct instructor is responsible for teaching history, geography, and/or politiccal science courses synchronously through Zoom and asynchronously through New River's learning management system.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Performs other functions as required or assigned. Also complies with all Policies and Standards.
Summary of Core Responsibilities
- Possess thorough and accurate knowledge of the field/discipline.
- Develop instructional materials; plan and organize instruction to enhance student learning; prepare the syllabi' and teach classes in a way that encourages student learning.
- Meet Zoom classes as scheduled.
- Be accessible to students through e-mail, phone, scheduled office hours or at other times.
- Evaluate student work and maintain accurate records of students’ academic standing.
- Provide students with constructive, encouraging, and corrective feedback in a timely manner.
- Respect the confidentiality of student information; refrain from discussing or releasing such information except within recognized limits.
- Demonstrate integrity and positive interpersonal and communication skills.
- Fulfill all expectations of adjunct faculty.
Skills:
- Demonstrated proficiency in technical area of expertise.
- Well versed in current teaching trends, techniques, resources, and technology for both onsite and virtual learning, as necessary.
Education
Bachelors Degree - Required
Master's Degree - Psychology OR Related Field with additional 18-hours of psychology courses - Required.
Experience
In addition to the knowledge/education, the following related work experience is typically required for this position. An equivalent combination of education and recent, related experience may be acceptable.
Teaching - Previous teaching experience - Preferred
