Summary:
The Recycled Metals Sorter is responsible for sorting and separating various types of metal materials for recycling and processing. This role involves identifying and categorizing metals, removing contaminants, and ensuring that materials are properly prepared for further processing or shipment. The sorter plays a critical role in maintaining the efficiency and quality of recycling operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Identify and separate ferrous and non-ferrous metals using tools such as magnets, visual inspection, or material analyzers.
· Sort metals according to type, grade, and quality standards.
· Inspect materials for contaminants or non-recyclable items and remove them
· Ensure compliance with company quality standards for processed materials.
· Safely handle and move metal materials
· Ensures the weights being entered into the scrap purchasing system are accurate.
· Assist in loading and unloading materials for processing or shipment.
· Follow all workplace safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
· Adhere to environmental regulations and company policies related to recycling operations.
· Communicates via radio often with scale staff about vehicles that have dropped certain commodities off, and any deducts from the loads before the customer is paid out.
· Communicate via radio with multiple people frequently about safety and any other appropriate radio communication to ensure an efficient work environment.
· Always respectfully and carefully assisting customers when getting unloaded.
· Safely and effectively loading and unloading various types of trailers with confidence when assigned.
· Keep equipment clean and safe for operation.
· Ensure the equipment is getting the maintenance attention it needs by keeping a list and notifying the appropriate people of any issues.
· Always treat customers with respect.
· Runs UBCS through the bailing system, ensures they are clean of any debris.
· Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
· Performs other duties as assigned or directed.

Education and/or Experience
High School diploma is preferred.
Preferred 1-3 years’ experience within our industry or closely related industry.
Must have excellent open communication style to carry out ongoing dialogues in a way that creates trust and confidence within all levels of the company.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
Technology Skills
The incumbent must be familiar with the practical use of technology and computer programs such as email and other local used programs allowing the incumbent to utilize the technology to regularly communicate with others.
Mathematical Skills
Basic math skills including counting; rounding; and basic estimating of distance measurements. The ability to make accurate measurements using basic tools such as tape measures, rulers, and scales, etc.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
