New Village Academy, a small public charter high school opening in Fall 2025 at Annapolis Mall in Annapolis, Maryland, is building a dedicated and innovative staff to create a new school community together!

Co-designed by high school students and Annapolis community leaders, New Village is committed to “High School Done Differently” using Equity as our Foundation, the Science of Motivation as our Playbook, and the City of Annapolis as our Classroom. Our small size fosters a close-knit community where every student is known as a unique individual, ensuring that no one "falls through the cracks." Our project-based learning model and emphasis on internships, apprenticeships, and dual enrollment in college ensure that students are fully prepared for the future they envision for themselves. Restorative Culture Facilitator Job Summary

The Restorative Culture Coordinator is responsible for implementing and overseeing restorative practices and other school culture structures at New Village Academy. This role involves working collaboratively with students, teachers, administrators, and families to create a positive school community that values student voice, trusting relationships, accountability, repair, and reconciliation. The Coordinator will facilitate restorative circles, conflict mediation (using VOMP protocol), student-led restorative circles, and other restorative structures. They will collaborate with other staff to build social-emotional-learning (SEL) programming including mindfulness, challenge by choice, and character development. This multifaceted role facilitates the building of strong relationships, development of student personal and interpersonal skills, addressing disciplinary issues in inclusive, just, and equitable ways, affirming our Core Values and Schoolwide Norms, and promoting a harmonious, student-centered, and accountable school culture. The Restorative Culture Coordinator also serves on the School Leadership Team and as an advisor to a “Crew” of 14 students.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive restorative culture program at New Village Academy.
  • Facilitate restorative circles, mediations, and conferences to address conflicts, disciplinary issues, and community-building opportunities.
  • Provide training and support to staff, students, and parents on restorative practices principles and techniques.
  • Work closely with the Principal, teachers, and other staff to develop policies and procedures that align with restorative practices.
  • Manage the Peace Room, our student cool-down and conferencing space.
  • Consistently record, track, and implement school-wide student accountability systems and other agreements students make with the staff and school leadership and contribute pertinent information for student suspension/appeal hearings as needed
  • Serve as a “Crew Leader” (advisor) to 14 students (looping for all 4 years)- act as an academic and career advisor, prioritize relationship-building, engage in team-building, wellness strategies, career development, and family collaboration/communication, and guide each Crew member toward an engaged, successful life of their own design.
  • Conduct visits to Crew students’ internship sites to monitor progress, using own transportation (one morning per week).
  • Plan and lead bi-weekly school-wide “Pick-Me-Up” gatherings of whole school or paired grades to uplift students, build a school spirit, and celebrate successes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations and resources to support restorative culture initiatives.
  • Manage and support student arrival, dismissal, lunch, and schoolwide events to foster a strong school culture.

Qualifications

  • Proven ability to build strong rapport and trust with diverse youth and families.
  • Expertise in conflict deescalation and management.
  • Experience facilitating group discussions, circles, and mediations.
  • Knowledge of restorative practices, principles, and traditions, grounded in indigenous roots.
  • Passion for fostering an empowering, inclusive, and equitable school environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills that demonstrate a professional demeanor.
  • Strong organizational, collaborative, and public relations skills.
  • Exemplary personal character, self-awareness, and ability to manage emotions.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with digital tools (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft or Google tools, including Docs/Word, Slides/PPT, and Sheets/Excel).
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred but not required.
  • Annapolis community relationships preferred but not required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in education, guidance and counseling, youth development, social work or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university preferred but not required (depending on experience).
  • Required: minimum of 2 years of experience in education, social work, youth development, counseling, or a related field, with a focus on restorative practices, conflict resolution, student-centered learning, or positive discipline.
  • Valid Driver’s license and own transportation needed (for internship site visits).
  • Bilingual Spanish speakers are highly encouraged to apply.

Salary and Benefits

  • Anne Arundel County Public Schools union-negotiated Unit V, Grade 03 . Pay range $60,000-$87,000 (for school year 2024-25) based on experience, plus options for additional responsibilities/summer employment.
