What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Special Education Teacher position at New West Charter School?
Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible to implement and follow all school policies and procedures, including but not limited to the following:
Curriculum, Instructional, and Additional Employee Duties
- Establishes and maintains a safe learning environment for all students.
- Creates a variety of engaging lessons, activities, and assessments for assigned seminar classes
- Explains school and state graduation requirements to students/parents
- Provides parents and students information about progress and the resources that we offer students
- Works with students to differentiate instruction and uses a variety of strategies to ensure student achievement
- Develops, revises, and implements new curriculum in an effort
- Plans, implements and coordinates instructional goals, activities, and help with students
- Meets with struggling students individually to discuss progress and adjust teaching methods whenever necessary to help the student make progress towards their graduation and post-high school goals
- Reviews, grades, and enters student scores in a timely fashion
- Regularly maintains their electronic grade book for accuracy and updates at least once a week
- Communicates (in person, email, phone, video conference) in a timely manner with all stakeholders regarding announcements, important school dates, concerns or congratulations, standardized test dates, assignment deadlines to students/parents, answers to student/parent questions, etc.
- Documents every important student/parent meeting
- Submits work samples and attendance records to the office within timelines established
- Maintains all required records in an organized, efficient, and professional manner
- Attends IEP meetings and documents students’ present levels of performance
Professional Activities and Growth
- Participates in curriculum development, materials selection, staff development, staff committees, and professional growth activities as directed
- Promotes positive and effective school communication by ensuring that all interactions with staff, students, parents, and the public at large are prompt, efficient, helpful and friendly
- Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service activities provided by the school and in self-selected professional growth activities as approved
Salary : $45,000 - $96,169
