Five years of professional experience in the following computer related areas: network, server, storage, and systems management; telecommunications, IT customer support and training; computer installation, diagnosis, and repair; technical writing; computer security; knowledge management; database administration, design, and management; internet/intranet development, design, and maintenance; information technology project management; design and development of geographic information systems or computer aided drafting applications; computer programming; business/systems analysis; program design; or program testing.OR2. A bachelor's degree in any field including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science and two years of experience; or a bachelor's or higher-level degree in any field and three years of experience; or an associate degree with 15 semester credit hours in a computer science field and four years of experience. Competitive Minimum Qualifications: You must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title or eligible to transfer to this title under Section 52.6, 70.1, or 70.4 of the Civil Service Law.Transfers: For 52.6, 70.1 and 70.4 transfer to an Information Technology Specialist 3, salary grade (SG)-23, you must have one year of permanent competitive service in an approved title for transfer allocated to an SG-21 or above.To determine if your current Civil Service title is eligible for transfer to this title, visit the Career Mobility GOT-IT website: Career Mobility Office » GOT-IT (ny.gov)Appointments via transfer must not result in a second, consecutive transfer with an advancement of more than two S-grades or one M-grade. The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description • Install, configure, and support enterprise operating systems including but not limited to UNIX, Linux, IBM z/OS and IBM AS/400, running on x86, IBM pSeries and zSeries hardware platforms. • Install, configure, and support third party server infrastructure software. • Assist in the development of, and support the adherence to, all Enterprise Server Services (ESS) technical and supervisory procedures. • Monitor and respond to support tickets in a timely manner. • Participate in hardware evaluation, selection, design, and implementation. • Provide professional support while interfacing with coworkers, other technical teams, vendors, and customers. • Create and manage shell scripts for automated tasks. • Provide non-business hours support including scheduled maintenance outages, rotating on-call roster, and emergency production outages. • Create and/or review reports each day for server status, escalating issues or concerns to the supervisor or manager. • Monitor resource utilization of servers running on x86, IBM pSeries, and IBM zSeries hardware platforms. • Apply upgrades, patches, and resolve security vulnerabilities at regularly scheduled intervals. • Direct and supervise staff by communicating objectives and expectations, allocating resources, assigning tasks/projects, reviewing progress/deliverables, providing constructive feedback, etc. • Develop training plans and provide staff with training opportunities appropriate to their level of expertise including on-the-job training, vendor sponsored events, and formal outside training. • Perform all administrative duties including, but not limited to, development and completion of comprehensive performance programs/evaluations, review of timecards, telecommuting journals, etc. • Handle personnel and performance issues in a timely manner and with discretion. • Research and plan the maintenance process according to installation guidelines and communicate with customers regarding any outages. • Assist with troubleshooting problems collaboratively with coworkers and other Chief Information Office teams. • Write and maintain documentation including infrastructure diagrams, troubleshooting articles, and upgrade plans. • Develop and maintain recovery procedures. Additional Comments Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Demonstrated experience with Operating Systems (1 year to 2 years) including, but not limited to: o UNIXo Linuxo IBM z/OS• Demonstrated experience with Operating Systems.• Demonstrated experience with Shell Scripting.• Demonstrated ability for troubleshooting.• Ability to multitask and work independently.• Ability to work effectively under high demand situations.• Strong verbal and written communication skills.Telecommuting: The Office of the New York State Comptroller (OSC) supports telecommuting where it is reasonable to do so based upon the agency’s mission and operational needs. Generally, employees new to OSC will be restricted from telecommuting for at least 8 calendar weeks. After the initial 8 calendar week restriction, if an employee’s primary residence location, duties, and work performance are aligned with telecommuting and operational needs they may be allowed to do so.
