What are the responsibilities and job description for the Governmental Affairs Associate position at New York City Council?
The New York City Council, an equal opportunity employer, is seeking a Governmental Affairs Associate to serve in the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs Division.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Represents the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs in the field.
· Monitor ongoing briefings, press conferences, public hearings and community meetings at different levels of government.
· Work with Council Members and other Council Divisions on assisting constituents with a range of concerns and other district related issues.
· Maintain the Intergovernmental team abreast of relevant issues.
· Act as a liaison with other government agencies.
· Collaborate with other Divisions and provide operational support on various projects as needed, including organizing meetings with partners in government, elected officials and relevant community groups.
· Reporting on all activities, database entry and other administrative tasks, as necessary.
· Coordinate and conduct special projects and research as directed.
· Perform other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· A Bachelor’s Degree preferred or any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities to perform the associated tasks.
· Understanding of Local, State and Federal Government.
· Outstanding ability to interact with a broad range of individuals.
· Excellent organizational, written and public speaking skills.
· Case management experience preferred.
· Display initiative, determination and assertiveness.
· Can function effectively working on group projects as well as independently.
· Knowledge of New York City and its communities is helpful.
· Capable of creative and analytical thinking.
· Must have basic computer skills including, working knowledge of Microsoft Office and creating and managing spreadsheets.
· Availability to work after hours and off-site events required.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
New York City residency required within 90 days of appointment.
