Job Title: Legislative Aide
Location: Albany, New York
Reports To: Legislative Director
Position Summary:
The Legislative Aide provides essential support to the Assemblymember and their legislative team. This role is based in Albany and focuses on policy research, constituent services, legislative tracking, and administrative tasks. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and committed to advancing the Assemblymember’s legislative and policy priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Legislative Support
• Conduct research on legislative issues, bills, and policy topics relevant to the Assemblymember’s district and legislative agenda.
• Draft memos, talking points, bill summaries, and other legislative materials.
• Monitor and track legislation, committee hearings, and relevant state agency activities.
• Assist in preparing the Assemblymember for meetings, briefings, and floor debates.
2. Constituent Services
• Respond to inquiries and concerns from constituents, connecting them with appropriate resources or services.
• Draft correspondence, including letters and emails, on behalf of the Assemblymember.
• Maintain accurate records of constituent interactions and ensure timely follow-up.
3. Administrative Tasks
• Manage the Assemblymember’s Albany office operations, including scheduling, filing, and correspondence.
• Coordinate logistics for meetings, events, and travel as needed.
• Serve as a liaison between the Albany and district offices to ensure seamless communication.
4. Communication and Outreach
• Assist in drafting press releases, newsletters, and social media content related to legislative activities.
• Attend community events, briefings, and stakeholder meetings as a representative of the Assemblymember.
• Build relationships with advocacy groups, stakeholders, and constituents to advance district priorities.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Strong knowledge of New York State government, legislative processes, and public policy.
• Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with constituent management software.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Commitment to serving the diverse communities of the Assemblymember’s district.
Work Environment:
This is a full-time position based in Albany during the legislative session, with occasional travel to the district office or events as needed.
