The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is hiring lifeguards for Moffitt Beach Campground in Lake Pleasant, New York.
Required Qualifications:
- Be at least 15 years of age at the time of employment.
- Possess current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training or equivalent.
- Possess current certification in the American Red Cross Waterfront Module or equivalent.
- Possess a certificate in American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent.
- All required certifications must be kept current for the duration of employment.
- Meet all required medical and vision standards. Vision must be 20/70 uncorrected or better.
- Pass the NYS Lifeguard Qualifier
The DEC is running recertification courses for lifeguards with soon to expire or recently expired lifeguard certifications. The course is free of charge for those who work the 2023 season at a DEC beach.
Job Requirements
Lifeguards are responsible for:
- Lifeguarding the area to which assigned.
- Understand the rules and regulations which apply to Department of Conservation swimming areas and ensuring that these rules and regulations are observed by people using the bathing facility.
- Preventing accidents and performing effective rescues.
- Maintaining a high level of physical and mental fitness by participating in an active in-service training program.
- Making detailed written reports to their supervisors on all accidents and rescues.
- Performing other duties as assigned in inclement weather.
- All tasks are to be conducted in a safe manner, with any injuries/illnesses reported immediately to supervisor.
