Duties Description
The Architect 1 performs architectural and engineering reviews of technical construction documents for Certificate of Need applications to ensure health care facilities are compliant to state and federal laws, rules, and regulations. The incumbent must have building code and construction experience to provide technical interpretations and guidance of physical space requirements, related to construction issues during various stages of design and with existing building conditions. Required to manage assigned workload, meet deadlines, provide project status reports, and assess work priorities. Managing projects includes engaging with facility owners and representatives on health care infrastructure designs and construction documentation. The incumbent will undertake special assignments as directed that may include evaluation of bureau policies and procedures for improving quality and efficacy. May also include research of new or updated state and federal code, rules, regulations, and physical space standards, or provide technical assistance to NYSDOH field staff. The incumbent will also oversee subordinate staff’s time and attendance and assist with mentoring and providing technical assistance and clarifications to staff.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Transfer Candidates: One year of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service as a Senior Architect, G-24, or Architect 1, G-24.
Non-Competitive Candidates: An architect's license, with current registration, from any state or territory in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Architecture strongly preferred, plus two years relevant post-license experience. A NYS Code Enforcement Official certification and experience in health care design, including but not limited to Hospitals, Outpatient Facilities, Nursing Homes, and Mental Health.

This position is part of the NYS HELPS program. No examination is required.
Posted salary range includes the statutory hiring rate and the job rate for PS&T Grade 24 ($88,639 - $111,897) AND an additional geographic pay differential of $7,000.
This position may require travel throughout New York State including overnights to areas not served by public transportation.
