Reporting to the Deputy Director of the Trade Practices Bureau, the Assistant Counsel will be assigned to the Trade Practices Bureau within the Office of General Counsel to conduct depositions and/or subpoena hearings or to analyze corporate documents and/or other evidence related to Trade Practice Bureau investigations. The incumbent must have experience in civil or criminal litigation or with analyzing complex financial documents.

Candidates must have been admitted to the New York State Bar and must have had two years of experience in the practice of law subsequent to admission to the Bar.

The incumbent must have experience in civil or criminal litigation or with analyzing complex financial documents.
Duties May Include But Are Not Limited To
- Provide legal support and advice to the Trade Practices Bureau.
- Draft internal memoranda that include analysis of TPB investigations.
- Draft legal memoranda on TPB investigations.
- Prepare deposition or subpoena hearing outlines.
- Conduct examination and cross examination of witnesses during depositions or subpoena hearings.
- Conduct witness interviews.
- Analyze complex financial and corporate documents.
- Consult with parties to the investigations and witnesses, examine evidence, prepare briefs, negotiate settlements, and advise superiors on same.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures for Trade Practice Bureau operations, working with the Office of the Attorney General with respect to litigation and motions to compel.
- Provide legal support and advice to the administrative units within the Office of Cannabis Management on matters such as human resources and procurement.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have been admitted to the New York State Bar and must have had two years of experience in the practice of law subsequent to admission to the Bar.

Additional Comments
- Travel may be required (approximately 5%), including during evening and weekends, depending on mission and assignment.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required, or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.
