Job Specifics

Duties Description The Sustained Engagement Support Unit (SES) is a team that facilitates the reengagement of adults who were unsuccessfully discharged from State-operated outpatient Clinics and Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) teams. SES provides telephonic outreach to those individuals to identify and address barriers to treatment and coordinates with hospital, care management, and criminal justice systems. SES collaborates with the adult State-operated outpatient programs to promote person-centered and recovery-oriented treatment. SES also monitors adults with a history of unstable housing who have been discharged from the Manhattan Psychiatric Center Transition to Home Unit (THU) for potential indicators of disengagement. SES works with housing and care team providers to promote increased community tenure.

The Mental Health Program Specialist 2 “Clinical Specialist” duties include:

• Provide engagement related feedback to outpatient program staff.
• Provide recommendations to SES staff and outpatient programs on complex cases.

The Clinical Specialist must possess a strong understanding of navigating systems of care for high-risk cases.

The ideal candidate has a person-centered, recovery-oriented, culturally curious and trauma responsive approach to treatment, and is able to use knowledge of Motivational Interviewing and Stages of Change to help SES staff and outpatient programs improve the effectiveness of their outreach and engagement approaches.

The selected candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting engagement related feedback to diverse audiences, as well as strong project management and organizational skills.

Minimum Qualifications Transfer:
Candidates must be permanent in the Mental Health Program Specialist 2 Clinical title and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Non-Competitive Appointment:
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in a health or human services area and three years of professional clinical experience in a mental health program.

A master's degree in child and family studies, counseling and community psychology, creative arts therapy, criminal justice, health administration, hospital administration, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling, nursing, psychoanalysis, psychology, public administration, public health, public policy, recreation therapy, rehabilitation counseling, social work, sociology, or special education can substitute for one year of specialized experience.
