Job Specifics

Duties Description Are you interested in starting or advancing your psychology career with New York State? Central New York Psychiatric Center is recruiting for a Psychologist 1 to provide professional psychological services under the supervision of a licensed psychologist to individuals with mental illness. Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply.

As a Psychologist 1 at Central New York Psychiatric Center, your duties will include:

• Administering, scoring, and interpreting psychological tests.
• Completing behavioral assessments.
• Leading and participating in individual, family, and/or group counseling sessions.

Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (HELPS) program as a Psychologist 1 if they have:

• Master’s degree in psychology that prepared graduates for positions treating individuals in clinical, forensic, community mental health, or school settings OR
• Completion of graduate coursework in a qualifying doctoral program in psychology that would be the equivalent required for conferral of a master’s degree in psychology and
AND
• 2 years of appropriately supervised post-master’s clinical psychology experience in a clinical, forensic, community mental health, or school setting where your primary duties were providing psychological services OR
• Fieldwork assignment as part of the qualifying master’s degree in psychology program

o Substitutions
o Doctoral degree in a clinical field of psychology and 1 year of qualifying experience may be substituted for both the education and experience requirements.
o Clinical psychology practicum, externship, or fieldwork assignment, that was completed as part of a qualifying master’s of psychology degree, may be substituted for 1 year of the required experience.
o Certificate of advanced study in a clinical field of psychology or school psychology may be substituted for 1 year of required experience.
OR
Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on the current Psychologist 1 eligible list.
OR
Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
