What are the responsibilities and job description for the Court Attorney position at New York State Unified Court System?
Position will be filled in one of the following titles and will be dependent on the qualifications of the applicant selected.
POSITION TITLE: ASSOCIATE COURT ATTORNEY
JG - 30
Base Salary: $119,638 $4,775 Location Pay =* $124,413*
Location: New York, NY (Bronx, Manhattan, or Brooklyn)

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Admission to the New York State Bar; and Five (5) years of relevant legal experience, including up to 18 months of pre-admission experience.
- Proficiency in legal research tools such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, and Microsoft Suite
- Strong knowledge of civil procedure, evidence rules, and applicable local, state, and federal laws.
- Experience in litigation, judicial clerkships, or legal research roles, particularly in civil law.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent legal writing, analytical, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple complex cases and work under strict deadlines.
- Experience with mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial procedure is a plus.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK:
- Associate Court Attorneys research and analyze complex legal issues, draft legal memoranda, proposed decisions, and opinions for judicial review.
- Communicating with attorneys and members of the public, and meeting with litigants (represented and self-represented)
- Assist the judge in case management, including reviewing motion papers, pleadings, and trial materials to ensure compliance with procedural and substantive law.
- Conduct in-depth legal research and analyze statutes, case law, and court rules relevant to civil matters, including contracts, torts, real property, landlord-tenant disputes, consumer protection, and commercial litigation.
- Attend court proceedings, conferences, and hearings, taking notes and advising the judge on legal issues as they arise.
- Draft and review court orders, ensuring accuracy and proper legal citations.
- May be responsible for supervision of attorneys, support staff, and interns who are located in one or more courts situated throughout a county, judicial district, or department.
The Court Attorney will serve in a confidential capacity and under supervision for judges or groups of judges in the Supreme Court, Criminal Court, and Civil Court of the City of New York. Associate Court Attorneys may be assigned to judges designated as Acting Justices of the Supreme Court for one full term or less.

BASE SALARY: $96,594 $4,775 Location Pay = $101,369
Location: New York, NY (Bronx, Manhattan, or Brooklyn)
Full-time, in-person (remote work is not available at this time)
