What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Property Accountant position at Newark Housing Authority?
By collaborating with property and regional team members, the Senior Property Accountant is responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of all financial information related to NHA communities and the corporate property management company financials. The Senior Property Accountant is also responsible for maintaining the complete books and records for a portfolio of NHA communities,10-12 Amps which includes analyzing and reviewing financial information, managing the month-end close process, reviewing account reconciliations, support schedules and financial statements and preparing/reviewing journal entries.
Responsibilities:
- Reports accurately and timely, the financial records of the assigned Amp portfolio 10-12 Amps, including budgets and forecasts
- Works closely with the property managers to ensure accuracy, consistency, and promote effectiveness in operations reporting
- Ensures implementation of company-wide property management accounting and reporting initiatives
- Maintains a calendar of all required reporting deadlines for assigned properties and prepares accurate and timely reporting as required
- Prepares and reviews monthly accruals and straight-line rent journal entries
- Reconciles balance sheet accounts monthly
- Ensures delinquency reports are correct and contacts property management about serious delinquencies
- Monitors cash and ensures that critical payments are made timely and prepares funding reports as needed
- Participates in budget preparation by providing information and analysis to property managers
- Review budgets for accuracy and upload them into accounting software
- Prepares monthly bank reconciliations for assigned properties
- Analyzes data from several sources and provides accurate and complete answers for owners
- Handles other duties as assigned by Controller

Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or University
- 3 years of property management accounting experience within multifamily or senior
- 2 years of management experience preferred
- Experience with property management software; experience with Yardi Voyager preferred
- Experience collaborating with onsite property teams is strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP & accrual accounting
- Professional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work fast in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment
