General Function
The District School Improvement Specialist is a master teacher/administrator and a communication link for curriculum and instruction for the local school districts. The specialist assists, supports, and coaches staff members in effective instruction with emphasis in core curriculum areas to ensure student success and academic achievement. Specialists promote school improvement by facilitating training, providing professional development. The goal of the school improvement specialist is to build capacity by providing ongoing coaching, data analysis, school improvement progress monitoring, and identifying prescriptive intervention strategies for all identified school sites and teachers and to assist the districts in providing school-wide leadership in implementing school improvement program requirements and documentation.
Qualifications
- Teaching certificate with administration endorsement (preferred)
- Master’s degree in education
- Minimum of 3 years teaching experience; 5 years or more administrative experience preferred

· Able to work as a team member and contribute to the agency's vision and goals.
· Able to demonstrate confidentiality in all matters.
· Must complete and pass the required criminal history check.
Essential Duties
- Assists the Director of Instructional Services in the overall administration of the School Improvement program.
- Monitors all school improvement program requirements
- Develops and delivers professional development on the administration of assessments, use of data, and data analysis with teachers and administrators.
- Creates documents that assist in the analyzation of school level and District level data
- Attends and facilitates data sessions at schools upon request
- Overseas the School Improvement Program Evaluation Process for all schools
- Identify strengths and challenges across the district and within schools based on student achievement data and share findings with Principals and Teachers after each major assessment round
- Assists and/or coordinates the implementation and interpretation of comprehensive needs assessment data for all schools
- Attends and leads appropriate School Improvement related meetings at district and school sites
- All other duties as assigned

- Work independently and as a collaborative member of a team, problem-solve, and find solutions to challenging situations
- Skills with computers, including a broad range of assistive technology resources, Google Drive, Outlook Calendar/Email
- Exemplary organizational skills related to task completion, including the ability to independently manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Effective communication both orally and in writing, including demonstrated proficiency in grammar, editing and proofreading
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to manage relationships with administration, colleagues, member districts, and NC RESA operated programs
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance
- Maintain and update work calendar to reflect currently scheduled activities, changes in schedule up to 30 days in advance
Other Required Skills
· Must be able to communicate effectively (language skills).
· Must have the ability to work with mathematical concepts (mathematical skills).
· Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions (reasoning skills).
· This position requires regular speaking and listening. While performing these duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand. The employee is occasionally required to bend and or twist at the trunk more than the average person. The employee is continuously repeating the same hand, arm and/or finger motion many times. The employee may occasionally lift and or move up to 35 pounds. The ability to travel to other buildings is required.
Work Environment
General classroom/office setting; the noise level in this position varies.
Terms of Employment
· Contracted employee (exempt)
· Daily per diem, up to 190 days
· Hybrid work schedule (in person and remote)
· Evaluated annually by the Director of Instructional Services
