High School Counselors at Newburyport High School support a diverse caseload of students in grades 9 through 12, helping them navigate their academic, social, and emotional development. They play a crucial role in guiding students through their high school journey and the post-secondary planning process, which includes college and career exploration and application. Counselors collaborate closely with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other school personnel to ensure that each student's needs are effectively met.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
●Consults with students, their families, and teachers to provide recommendations and/or implement strategies that will contribute
to student success in and out of the classroom.
●Provides individual counseling related to academic performance, social experiences, and mental health challenges.
●Tracks student progress by conducting regular check-ins, adjusting care plans, and proactively communicating status updates to
necessary parties while maintaining confidentiality as appropriate.
●Provides crisis intervention, re-entry, and transition support to students, families, faculty, and staff in accordance with established
protocols.
●Supports diversity and inclusion for all students and families.
●Maintains building records and documentation for all students eligible under Section 504 and conducting yearly 504 review
meetings in partnership with the Director of School Counseling.
●Demonstrates knowledge of Aspen or demonstrates the ability to learn and utilize the Aspen platform
POST SECONDARY ADVISING
●Works to establish appropriate post-secondary goals for each student
●Works with each student throughout the scheduling process, including advising on future classes, educating students on making
academic decisions, and supporting students in preparation for the following school year
●Demonstrates knowledge of Naviance for career and post-secondary exploration as well as the college search and application
process
●Demonstrates flexibility in learning and adapting to a new College and Career platform - Schoolinks
CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT AND DELIVERY
●Participates in curriculum development as well as specific lesson planning and teaching of school counseling seminar classes to
all high school grade levels when necessary
●Assists in the development of classroom learning in seminar classes and contributes to the curriculum development of for all
grade high school levels as it relates to social skills, conflict resolution, stress management, bullying, and other relevant topics
specific to the age group
