We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Vice President of Finance to join Newport Mental Health’s leadership team. In this key role, you will oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and grant management, while providing strategic financial guidance to ensure the sustainability of our trauma-informed, person-centered recovery services. You will manage a small team, work closely with senior leadership, and regularly provide financial data and insights to the Board of Directors, supporting NMH’s mission to provide behavioral health and substance use disorder services.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING (ESSENTIAL DUTIES)…

Financial Strategy and Leadership :

Develop and execute financial strategies to support NMH’s mission

Provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership and the Board of Directors regarding financial planning and sustainability.

Oversee the preparation of financial reports, budgets, and forecasts, ensuring accurate financial data is available for decision-making.

Budgeting and Financial Planning :

Lead the budgeting process for all departments, working with department heads to ensure budget alignment with strategic priorities.

Monitor financial performance against budget, analyze variances, and provide corrective actions when necessary.

Financial Reporting and Compliance :

Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.

Oversee audits and ensure financial records are maintained according to industry standards and regulatory guidelines.

Grant Management and Reporting :

Manage all aspects of grant funding, including allocation, drawdown, and compliance reporting.

Provide financial reports related to grant funding and ensure that all funding is used efficiently and effectively in accordance with grant terms.

Risk Management and Controls :

Establish and enforce financial controls to safeguard NMH’s assets, ensure accuracy of financial data, and mitigate financial risks.

Lead efforts to manage financial risks, including monitoring the impact of external factors such as reimbursement rates, regulations, and economic conditions.

Team Leadership and Development :

Manage, mentor, and lead the finance team to ensure high performance and professional growth.

Promote a culture of collaboration, transparency, and accountability within the finance department.

Cash Flow and Investment Management :

Oversee cash flow management to ensure that NMH has the liquidity necessary to support operations.

Work with leadership to manage investments and financial assets to maximize returns and minimize risks.

External Relationships and Stakeholder Engagement :

Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including government agencies, grantors, financial institutions, and auditors.

Provide financial leadership and transparency to Board members, executives, and external stakeholders.

Requirements :

WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU…

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; Master’s degree or CPA preferred.

Minimum of 7-10 years of senior-level finance experience, preferably in a nonprofit or healthcare setting.

Strong understanding of nonprofit financial management, including government and insurance reimbursement systems, grants, and contract management.

Demonstrated experience in financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights.

Expertise in managing financial systems and software, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools. Knowledge of Paylocity, Blackbaud, and Razor’s Edge is preferred.

Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with diverse teams, stakeholders, and external partners.

Strong ethical foundation and integrity in managing financial matters.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

A proactive and solutions-oriented approach to financial management.
