provide for safe and secure operations in the courts; guarantee expedient and accurate service of civil and criminal warrants, and enforce the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Working under Sworn Deputies, this position provides safe and compassionate transportation assistance for individuals under mental health treatment.
While in the Newport News City Jail (NNCJ), this position serves as a psychiatric tech and provides wellbeing monitoring within a correctional setting.
Reports to the Assistant Chief Deputy or the Chief Deputy.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
In this role, you will transport individuals as requested to Mental Health Facilities throughout Virginia. The Care Transport Unit works cooperatively with Sworn Deputies, Hospital staff, and Mental Health facility’s that provide services to individuals.
Care Transport Unit staff will assist in securing, transporting, monitoring, and coordinating in the transporting of individuals under court orders to various Mental Health facilities in Virginia.
Due to the special needs during transports, Care Transport Unit staff must be responsive to special needs that may arise during a transport and remain calm and professional in situations.
Care Transport Unit staff must be able to operate a motor vehicle safely which may include a passenger van, SUV, or a passenger car.
Care Transport Unit staff must maintain accurate logs and paperwork to include serving of court, hospital, and departmental paperwork.
Care Transport Unit staff may work a variety of shifts, to include days, nights, weekends and holidays, and must be flexible in scheduling

EDUCATION
High School Diploma or G.E.D
EXPERIENCE
- Transport experience with mental health clients preferred
- Knowledge of developmental disabilities preferred
- Drug and Alcohol / Mental Health experience preferred
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS
- Required to maintain CPR / First Aid certification
- Registered Behavioral Technician Certification (RBT) preferred .
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be 21 years of age
- Acceptable background check and acceptable credit check
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Pre-Employment drug screen and physical, annually thereafter.
- Refrain from all use of controlled substances and are subject to random controlled substances testing.
