Classification: Full-time (Non-exempt) year round

Reports to: Lead Groundskeeper

Job Summary: The Newport Restoration Foundation, a museum and preservation organization in Newport, RI is seeking qualified applicants to join our Grounds and Gardens Crew, at our oceanfront Rough Point museum. This role provides year round maintenance of the ground and facilities of historic properties with the ability to work in a variety of inclement weather conditions. Work is performed as part of a crew or independently. Groundskeeper is available as an on call employee for snow removal and disaster response.

Salary Range: $45,760-$47,840 ($22.00-$23.00 hour)

Full-time, year round position, Monday-Friday

Specific Responsibilities:

· Maintenance and mowing of lawns

· Trimming of hedges from ground and/or ladder

· Edging and mulching

· Planting of flowers, trees, and other plants according to design plans

· Weeding

· Spring and Fall leaf clean-up

· Tree work including pruning

· Snow removal including plowing

· Masonry repairs and hardscape installation

· General cleaning of shop and facilities

· Other projects as requested by Lead Groundskeeper

Qualifications:

· High school diploma or equivalent

· At least five years garden and landscaping experience and a strong working knowledge of plant material and attention to detail

· Proficient in the use of all necessary equipment including, but not limited to, walk behind mower, zero turn and tractor mounted lawn mowers, weed trimmers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, snow blowers, snowplows, gas generators, gas and electric hedge trimmers, sod cutters, over seeders, walk behind or tractor mounted aerators, rototillers, woodchippers and handheld or backpack sprayers

· Work from extended heights using extension ladders

· Comfortable using hand tools for gardening tasks

· Valid driver’s license and maintain status to drive vehicles

· Ability to lift 50 lbs. is required

· Ability to work independently or as part of a team

· Personal qualities of a strong work ethic, attention to detail and ability to work efficiently.
