Title: Painter

Classification: Full-time (Non-exempt), Temporary (6 months)

Reports to: Property Care Manager

Job Summary: The Newport Restoration Foundation is seeking a temporary (6 months) Painter to start immediately that will assist with the interior and exterior preparation and painting of the organization’s portfolio of historic houses. Performing small, light carpentry tasks will also be required.

Salary Range: $20.00 per hour, 40 hours per week Monday-Friday

· Sick leave in accordance with Rhode Island Sick and Safe Leave Act,

· Paid holidays (Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July 4th and Victory Day, Labor Day

· Monthly cellphone reimbursement

· Free on-site parking

Specific Responsibilities:

· Wash, scrape, sand and smooth interior and exterior surfaces prior to painting, varnishing or applying other related materials.

· Fill cracks, holes and joints with caulk, putty or other fillers using caulking guns or putty knives.

· Remove fixtures such as lamps and electrical switch covers prior to painting.

· Cover surfaces with drop cloths to protect during painting process.

· Operate small power equipment.

· Erect various types of scaffolding, staging and ladders to reach surfaces of work area.

· Apply paints, stains, surface preparatory materials and undercoating materials to a variety of surfaces and according to Safety Data Sheets ensuring compliance with hazardous materials guidelines.

· Clean equipment as well as paint mixing/storage area and work areas.

· Perform light carpentry as assigned by the Property Care Manager.

· Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

· 3 years of interior and exterior residential paint experience.

· Light carpentry and general maintenance skills.

· Climb stairs and work from elevated surfaces including ladders, staging and roofs.

· Regularly bend, stretch and kneel.

· Lift a maximum weight of 50 lbs. alone or larger weights in concert with others.

· Interact professionally with tenants and outside contacts.

· Ability to follow supervisor’s instructions and also work independently.

· Integrate and work effectively as a member of the team.

· Manage time both in quality job performance and in using paid time off.

· Possess driver’s license and reliable transportation for traveling to and from job sites.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience working in historic buildings.

· Knowledge of lead-based paint hazards and mitigation techniques.

· Possess Lead Renovator Certificate or equivalent.
