Job Duties
To understand and observe all of Carroll Concrete Co., Newport Sand & Gravel Co., Inc.’s policies and procedures including but not limited to the Employee Handbook, Training Manual, SAFE Policy, Safety Manual and Drug Free Work Place Manual.
Summary
The duties of the Field Service Technician are to service Carroll Concrete’s fleet of vehicles and service/fabricate ready-mix and crushing facilities, to the direction of the Fleet Manager. This position splits time between these two functions by setting priority to serve the current business need. The Field Service Technician is expected to work independently. This position is provided with a service vehicle and cell phone for service calls. Due to the independent nature of this position, the Field Service Technician is expected to work in a safe manner while in the field as well as report back directly to the Fleet Manager with any concerns, immediately.
Primary Duties
- Report to service calls in the field, whether it is roadside vehicle or plant related.
- Diagnosing malfunctions and necessary repairs on both plant and vehicles.
- Performs maintenance and repairs on plants.
- Disassembles, constructs and assembles plants, buildings and crushing facilities as necessary.
- Perform final operational test on repaired vehicle to ensure it is in proper working order.
- Performs preventive maintenance on trucks such as fluid changes, lubrications, safety inspections, brake repairs, etc.
- Discuss parts needs with the Fleet Manager on a daily basis (for timely and efficient ordering).
- Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems, related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators and related equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance as necessary or as directed.
- Repairs and maintains physical structure of establishment.
- Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts. Must be able to fabricate and make repairs as necessary.
- At supervisor’s direction, is responsible for ordering/or notifying designated person of parts needed to complete maintenance project.
Other Duties
- Follow paper-flow procedures including documenting all repairs, parts used, issues and items needing ordering.
- Report all accidents, injuries or near misses to supervisor immediately.
- Always wear proper protective equipment, work safely and efficiently.
- Foster a team environment.
- Other duties as assigned or as necessary.
Desired Qualifications
- Education:
1. High school education or equivalent combined with a minimum of 5 year of related plant and vehicle maintenance experience.
- Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Troubleshoot and replace defective electrical apparatus, such as switches, relays, motors and electrical and electronic components of machinery equipment. (Preferred Skill)
- Must have good communication skills.
- Must have basic electric wiring understanding to trouble shoot and repair (and know when to call in an electrician).
- Must be able to weld and fabricate.
- Must be able to adhere to a very strict safety policy while performing work (such as lockout/tagout, confined space, fall protection and other applicable safety requirements).
- Must organize and prioritize work efficiently.
- Must be able to maintain composure through stressful situations and when under time constraints.
- Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work alone if necessary.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years related experience
Licenses and Certification Requirements:
- Valid Driver’s License
Restrictions:
- Must be able to lift and maneuver up to 100 pounds as required throughout the workday.
- Bending, squatting, reaching and standing for long periods of time.
- Ability to grasp, discern color, be capable of using tools and equipment properly.
- Must be able to maneuver in and around facilities safely.
- Must be able to climb ladders when necessary (working at heights is inevitable).
- Must be able to work in varied weather conditions, as much of the work is performed outside in the elements.
- Must be able to work long and flexible hours as necessary as well as nights and/or weekends if a situation arises that requires immediate attention.
Other Comments:
- To drive the company’s 1-ton maintenance vehicle, driver have a valid driver’s license, must pass a DOT (Department of Transportation) physical and comply with all federally mandated alcohol and drug testing requirements. Must be insurable within the tolerable limits of the Company as well as its insurance company.
