Job Description

Newrest is looking for an experienced Transportation Manager. The Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire Transportation department. This individual ensures that orders are completed in a timely and quality manner by our drivers. This is a complex, management position that relies heavily on getting things done through others and providing the oversight and direction for various areas within the department, including drivers, helpers, dispatch, and the fridge unit. This individual needs to be a self-starter and have a vision of what is required to take the department to the next level. This individual's leadership will need to be expert with the ability to develop, train, and hold people accountable through clear expectations

Essential Functions

Supervisory and Management

  • Supervises and manages the work of all employees in all areas of the department, including dispatch, drivers, helpers, supervisors, admin staff, and general workers.
  • Motivate and inspire team members to perform above expectations through proper recognition methods and programs.
  • Ensure that all policies and procedures are followed by Newrest and client's requirements
  • Communicate effectively with all crew members and team members
  • Hold team members accountable for all expectations

Operations/Logistics

  • Ensure compliance with all government regulatory agencies standards (example: Food and Drug Administration (FDA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Administration (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT) , Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), etc.)
  • Investigate and complete incidents/accidents documentation
  • Observe service operations, ensure all ramp safety, AOA safety, security rules and regulations are followed, and report any violations
  • Provide solutions to problems that occur during the transportation, unloading, offloading, or any other process
  • Enforce safety processes and legal requirements for transportation and other processes
  • Organize regular audits on the runway and set up corrective action plans as appropriate
  • Perform maintenance on the fleets and follow up to ensure proper safety maintenance
  • Be diligent, punctual, and reliable
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Quality and Safety

  • Ensure that all processes conform to the customer and Newrest specifications
  • Comply at all times with good hygiene and manufacturing practices (eg, hazard analysis and critical control points [HACCP], FIFO)
  • Carry out cleaning, washing, and sanitation of premises in accordance with cleaning plan
  • Investigate and complete incidents/accidents documentation
  • Enforce safety processes and legal requirements for transportation and other processes.
  • Organize regular audits on the runway and set up corrective action plans as appropriate.
  • Perform maintenance on the fleets and follow up to ensure proper safety maintenance.

Human Resources

  • Interview and determine the individuals to join your department
  • Approve time off requests and other leaves of absences
  • Perform performance reviews for all department team members
  • Approve all timecards and resolve timecard discrepancies
  • Mentor and coach team members and provide corrective actions as required
  • Regular and timely attendance is expected for the position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors in Operations, Logistics, Business Management, or related field strongly preferred
  • 5-10 years' experience in inflight catering or airport hub environment, manufacturing, logistics, or food industry managing 100 non-exempt level employees

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong leadership experience with experience in turnaround environments
  • Strong communication skills with ability to communicate with non-exempt to upper management levels
  • Ability to effectively handle conflict and de-escalate emotionally charged situations
  • Good understanding of OSHA, HR, and other employment laws
  • Good knowledge of investigation procedures and root cause analysis
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and operational processes
  • Good knowledge of HACCP & food safety standards
  • Strategic thinker with creativity and excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Resilient self-starter, who can act independently and learn quickly within a rapidly evolving environment
  • Ability in showing self-initiative and follow-through
  • Detail-oriented and ability to see big picture
  • Strong ability with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
  • Strong analytical skills for interpretation of data to effectively manage risk
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with site operations, functional leaders and external clients and vendors
