What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transportation Manager position at Newrest?
Newrest ATL has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Transportation Manager.
This individual is responsible for overseeing about 300 team members, including 3 Assistant Managers and 9 Supervisors and has full operational, fiscal, and human resource responsibility for the entire Transportation department. This individual sets the tone for the culture of the department and ensures that team members accomplish the work and treats them equitably and respectfully. This individual provides the vision and motivation for the department to improve recruitment and retention efforts. This individual consistently looks for ways to improve the operations and flow and maintains the quality and safety Newrest standards. This is a complex, management position that relies heavily on getting things done through others and providing the oversight and direction for various areas within the department, including drivers, helpers, dispatch, and the fridge unit.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Supervisory and Management
This position supervises and manages the work of employees in all areas of the department, ensures that all policies and procedures are followed per Newrest and client’s requirements, communicates effectively with all crew members, holds team members accountable, coaches and issues corrective actions as well as addresses all time and attendance discrepancies.
Operations/Logistics
From an operational and logistics standpoint, this individual will be required to comply with all government regulatory agencies standards (i.e., FDA, USDA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, HACCP), investigate and complete incident reports, as well as organize regular audits on the runway and set up corrective action plans as appropriate. Safety is an important component at Newrest; therefore, you are required to enforce safety processes, perform maintenance on the fleets and follow up to ensure safety maintenance.
Safety and Quality
Safety is the responsibility of all employees at Newrest. Therefore, this position ensures that all processes conform to the customer and Newrest specifications. This individual will also comply with airport and driving safety protocol, food safety protocol, enforce safety process, and investigative and complete incident/accident documentation.
Human Resources
This position also holds the following HR-related responsibilities: interview and determine the individuals to join your department, approve time off requests and other leaves of absences, perform performance reviews for all department team members, approve all timecards and resolve timecard discrepancies, mentor and coach team members and provide corrective actions as required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate needs to possess the following:
- Bachelors in Operations, Logistics, Business Management, or related field
- 5-10 years of experience in manufacturing, logistics, or food industry managing 100 hourly employees.
- Strong preference given to someone with experience in start-up or turnaround environments
- Strong leadership skills, especially with holding others accountable and creating/maintaining an organized and engaged team
- Ability to work well under pressure and tight deadline
- Strong understanding of logistics and fleet procedures
- Detail-orientated with the ability to see the big picture
