Job Summary
You love finding stories that matter and make a difference in a local community. You love mentoring young journalists. You’re ready to make bold choices about news content at a 24 / 7 news shop. Then this is the job is for you. This newly created role will work closely with the news director and assistant news director on day-to-day coverage needs and advance planning of the newscasts. You will be managing a team of assignment editors as well as reporters.
Responsibilities
- Supervise daily operations of the assignment desk.
- Provide leadership that encourages excellence.
- Recruit and hire assignment editors.
- Supervise short-term and long-term news coverage planning.
- Supervise development and execution of series and specials.
- Manage the schedules of reporters and photographers to meet coverage needs.
- Supervise the scheduling of facilities and the distribution of news gathering equipment.
- Work with reporters to achieve editorial goals.
- Conduct employee reviews that are timely and effective.
- Coordinate stringers assignments.
- Participate / contribute content across all platforms including social media.

This position is identified as being performed in / or reporting to company operations in New York State. Salary ranges are supplied in compliance with New York State law. Pay is competitive and based on a number of job-related factors, including skills and experience. The starting pay rate / range at time of hire for this position in the posted location is $102,816.00 - $168,912.00 / year. The rate / range provided herein is the anticipated pay at the time of hire, and does not reflect future job opportunity.
