What are the responsibilities and job description for the NCE Health Care Supervisor (HCS) position at Newton Community Education?
The Health Care Supervisor (HCS) is responsible for the health and wellness of all summer campers. The HCS is organized, flexible and able to problem-solve; calm under pressure; an effective communicator with adults, counselors and campers; and has experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting. The HCS is supervised by the Summer Program Coordinator and the Enrichment Camp Director.

Essential Job Duties:
- Actively work to support NCE’s mission and values
- Promoting health and safety of all campers by reviewing policies and procedures with ALL staff, counselors and campers
- Responding to calls that arise during the day to provide first aid
- Responding to calls that arise during the day for emergencies that may require emergency medical care
- Recording and reviewing incidents/accidents and injuries that take place during the day
- Communicating with NCE management when an accident or injury occurs so that proper paperwork can be filed by management and communicated with families in a timely manner
- Communicating with camper caregivers about medical incidents and the care provided. This is in collaboration with camp management when appropriate.
- Maintaining a health log to record all points of contact during the summer camp season
- Maintain and log all medications given
- Oversee counselors to assist in the distribution of water and first aid supplies.
- Collecting and managing health records: Physicals and immunization records of all children
- Collecting, recording all emergency medicine records and distributing info to instructors, coaches and NCE summer staff
- Ordering and maintaining first aid supplies for all camp-sites
- Other duties assigned by supervisor
- Using intentional language to foster a sense of belonging and community within the camp setting
- In May, review all HCS duties with Enrichment and Sport Camp Directors and Summer Programmer
- Attend May/June meeting with Health Care Consultant to review standing orders
- Attend NCE summer staff orientation (paid) June 21st and any other planning meetings leading up to the program
Qualifications & Qualities
- Experience engaging with children ages 5-16, preferably in a recreational setting
- Experience managing students with behavioral issues, and skills to intervene directly when necessary to offer a strength-based, empathic approach
- Experience working with students with neurodivergence and other disabilities
- Ability to foresee safety risks and implement proactive practices to keep students safe.
- Proven ability to develop & implement successful operational processes and procedures, preferably in the context of school and/or camps.
- An inclusive mindset and commitment to engaging all enrolled students regardless of background, level of experience, English language ability, etc.

Budget
- If needed, track spending for needed materials; submit advanced requests for materials needed; provide appropriate documentation for reimbursement requests
Safety and Procedures
- Supervise campers when needed during the program and ensure their safety
- Be familiar with NCE summer handbook; ensure that regulations and NCE policies, including protocols for check-in, drop-off and attendance, are faithfully followed by attendees and staff
- Review medical/allergy information for all attendees; check in with families in advance to make an appropriate plan; ensure medical/allergy needs are adequately and confidentially addressed at camp
- Support students with special needs as communicated by NCE office staff
- Support staff and volunteers (if applicable) with student behavioral issues and intervene directly when necessary to offer a strength-based, empathic approach
- Timely and appropriate communication, including documentation of incidents and accidents, with Summer Program Coordinator, and NCE Central Staff
- Seek assistance of Summer Program Coordinator and/or NCE Central Staff as appropriate
- Oversee respectful use of NPS facilities
Requirements
- Ability to commit to full duration of work
- Proficient in Google Docs and Sheets
- Current certification in First Aid and CPR obtained no later than June 2024
- Clean CORI/SORI/fingerprint background check
- Able to quickly navigate around buildings and outdoor areas
- Able to lift up to 35 lbs
