After School Academic Program (ASAP)
Position Title: ASAP Instructor
Reports To: Site Coordinator
Qualifications:
- Eligibility for employment in the ASAP is contingent upon current employment with Newton County Schools. Ability to communicate in both written and verbal form; formulate effective afterschool activities; plan and direct the work of others; form cooperative relationships with staff, students, and parents; and teach the designed afterschool curriculum.
- Knowledge of the developmental needs of school-aged children, principles of program management and supervisory practices.
- Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, plan and implement a variety of academic-based enrichment and recreational activities for students to coincide with the daily time schedule as assigned by the Site Coordinator. The ASAP will implement math, science, & reading/ELA instruction appropriate for students in grades served.
- Planning his or her own grade-specific lessons which are aligned with the CCGPS. (It is highly recommended that plans are prepared for the month).
- Maintain daily student attendance reports for assigned students.
- Knowledgeable of and follow site safety procedures.
- Attend ASAP site-based staff meeting.
- Participate in staff development sessions and workshops.
- Perform general housekeeping duties.
- Provide supervision of students and remain in the program area during assigned hours.
- Maintain positive behavior of students.
- Follow the chain of command.
- Assume other duties relative to ASAP as assigned by the Program Director.
Terms of Employment
- Program shall operate in accordance with the regular school calendar. The same holidays - teacher workdays, spring break, fall break, winter break and summer vacation are observed.
- Regular school day duties may not be done during ASAP hours.
- Sign-in on the ASAP staff sign-in sheet for the days worked.
- Salary is $15.00 for non-certified and $20.00 per hour for certified teachers.
- Cellular phone usage is prohibited during ASAP hours.
