Newtown Savings Bank is seeking an experienced outside business calling officer for the role of Small Business Lender. Our Small Business Lender focuses on developing new customer relationships including business and personal checking accounts, small business loans, merchant services, credit card sales and Treasury Management services to help drive core deposits. Works with Retail Banking to assist in developing long and short-term sales strategies targeted at the small business market. This is an onsite opportunity at our Corporate office in Newtown, CT. This role has remote option of one day per week.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Expected to be out of the office at least 75% of the time by networking, establishing new relationships, and expanding on existing relationships. The primary focus is growing core Small Business loans (including loans under the SBA 7 (a) and 504 Loan Programs), business deposits, Treasury Management products, merchant services and commercial and consumer credit card sales.
- Assist in developing long and short-term sales strategies to address growth of small business banking services.
- Partner with other bank employees on a regular basis to help target and close new product relationships including small business loans, cash management, mortgages, commercial loans, and Newtown Investment Solutions. Meet or exceed all budgeted sales targets.
- Accept business loan applications within the realm of the Small Business Lending program, collect and review all pertinent financial information and prepare lender section of loan submissions to be analyzed by Commercial Credit Department, manage portfolio of existing loans.
- Must be highly energetic and creative to help assist the Bank with growing deposits. Must be passionate about sales and assist with new ideas to target new small businesses, retain our clients, and expand our existing small business customer’s share of wallet.
- Support the Bank’s Mission Statement, Vision Statement, and Core Values. Provide prompt and courteous service to all external and internal customers. Resolve customer complaints and refer to Commercial and Retail Banking when needed for any difficult situations.
- Meet with FVP, CLO to discuss service and sales performance on a regular basis and employee development.
- Participate regularly in business networking events and community service activities. Represent the Bank as a board member for at least one community group. Promote the Bank and the Bank’s services.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Associate’s degree and above, or equivalent experience
- 3-5 years business banking experience including ability to perform ancillary credit analysis
- Must be able to communicate effectively, dealing with internal and external customers, as well as current department, in person, on the telephone or in writing. Strong customer service skills required. Must be able to speak one on one, or in small groups. Proficient in routine letters and customer correspondence.
- Must have ability to perform initial credit analysis to determine viability of new commercial lending relationships.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out functions furnished in written form or oral form. Ability to perform a variety of duties without loss of efficiency or composure. Ability to multi-task as well as to perform repetitive work according to set procedures and meet deadlines. Ability to perform well under pressure.
- Be task oriented, organized and work well in team environment. Must have the ability to listen well and follow instructions, as well as to receive guidance and supervision, and follow work rules and procedures.
- Regular reliable attendance is critical.
