What are the responsibilities and job description for the OSP Fiber Construction Supervisor position at Nextlink Internet?
Job Summary:
The OSP Fiber - Construction Supervisor will have the knowledge, skills, and ability to successfully lead and assist a team in completing various task related to new builds such as, site drawings, construction installation, contractor management, fielding, customer site walks, as well as detailed FTTH and FTTX experience to include, ROW knowledge, cabinet placement and transformed power knowledge and all other things related to FTTH and FTTX operations.
Essential Functions:

- Oversee the daily operations at assigned sites
- Maintain daily paperwork required for the site and crews as well as contractors
- Implement and follow through with job instructions provided by leadership
- Ensure safety and quality controls are maintained on site and with the crews and or contractors
- Uploading closeout and relevant site documentation to include, final pictures, final completed SOW and or KMZ and all other documents as assigned
- Provide leadership, actively train, and promote learning to all employees around you
- Responsible for company provided vehicle, trailer, tools, equipment, and supplies
- Must be able to track the status of your job(s) and report those back to your management via daily reporting
- Must understand contractor builds and how company provided materials get utilized and keep a log of the materials left after each job
- Must understand and be able to oversee the safety of excavating, construction, planning, and maintenance where needed
- Trenching and installing PVC conduit
- Shoveling and raking dirt and gravel
- Daily maintenance and cleanliness of worksite
- Take pictures of final work and provide all turnover documentation
- Must be willing to create a COP (close out package) with detailed information and submit this to every contractor for completion
- Must be willing to travel for the company where and as needed
- Must be willing to spend multiple hours a day in the driver seat of a company vehicle gathering information from multiple locations
- Needs to have basic to advanced computer skills and be able to report on different smart platforms the information gathered from the field (SmartSheets, Excel, OneDrive, 3GIS, KMZ, ETC)
- Must be able to communicate with contractors and keep them to strick deadlines of completion
- Must stay current on contractors and their inventory when coming from Nextlink
- Must always present yourself in a professional manner being the first point of contact for Nextlink in certain situations
- Must be able to meet with home builders and discuss our fiber operations at a high level
- Must be willing to give your fielding information to engineering and discuss at a high level changes that may need to be made
- Must be willing to learn 3GIS and utilize this platform in the field
- Must be able to field a new build and create a KMZ with the information learned while on site
- Must be able to keep detailed notes and be able to refer back when asked a question days – weeks later
- Other and all duties as assigned
Skills:
- Demonstrated expertise in construction skills, rigging, safety and general industry knowledge
- Proven ability to operate excavation equipment
- Excellent leadership and training skills
- Excellent organizational and communication skills both written and oral
- General knowledge and use of computers and technology
- Must be able to read and interpret site plans, construction drawings, and Scope of Work.
- Must pass a drug screening test and a criminal background check.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a safe/acceptable driving record in compliance with company policy
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Must have recent experience working in a similar type of laborious role
- Recent experience as a lead, supervisor, manager or similar
