Job Overview:
As a Senior Photonics Design Engineer at nEye Systems, you will be a key player in defining and improving our Si photonics MEMS technology, which is at the heart of our OCS. You will be a direct report to one of our company founders and be an active participant in our regular company strategy meetings, including addressing our chip design and manufacturing technology strategies.
\n- Leading the nEye photonics design team and collaborating with other nEye groups to optimize chip design for product system-level requirements
- Driving specific device designs and collaborating on fabrication methodologies.
- Designing photonic components and photonic integrated circuits to advance our optical switch technology.
- Developing, overseeing, and performing photonic component and system-level testing.
- Working cross-functionally with system and fabrication team members to develop improved optical switch capabilities.
- PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
- 7 years of hands-on experience with Si photonics.
- Strong understanding of microfabrication processes and related constraints on photonic component designs.
- Strong understanding and proficient experience of photonic component simulation tools such as FDTD, EME, FEM, or FIT.
- Experience with photonic integrated circuit layout and photonics foundry tape-out.
- Experience with designing and executing detailed photonic device experiments and characterization protocols.
- Ability to lead the design team and engage with senior executives on design strategy and modeling
- Strong communication skills in collaboration, verbal presentation, and written reports.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and oral), and leadership skills.
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment; can participate in multiple work streams simultaneously; are passionate about solving problems and learning.
- Development of optical switches and/or fiber optic connections.
- Broad knowledge of data center switches and optics.
- Experience in optical packaging, co-packaged optics, and hybrid bonding
- In-depth understanding of photonics and MEMS
- Experience in photonics architecture and validation
