Overview :
The Occupational Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting the regional Safety function to align with and support operations and ensure that internal / external customer service expectations are fulfilled via a positive and compliant safety culture. The position partners with operational leadership to ensure a safe and compliant environment is in place and the appropriate occupational safety and health concerns are being identified and addressed swiftly and efficiently. The Specialist will serve as an consultant and subject matter expert focusing on collaborative solutions to ensure the above is accomplished in conjunction with behavioral based safety methodologies.
The position is also responsible for implementing and supporting safety programs built with the foundation of behavioral based safety in conjunction with the corporate Occupational Safety and Health team. Strong communication and collaboration with all associates and leaders to ensure safety needs are met is essential.
The safety-specific areas required for this role include but are not limited to : behavioral safety, occupational safety and health, process safety, product quality, powered industrial truck safety, fire prevention and training and development. They will work closely with the broader Enterprise Risk Management organization with significant collaboration with the entire Occupational Safety & Health team. The Specialist will report to the Sr. Manager Occupational Safety & Health. This role will spend 50% of time traveling between their regional sites and others as required.
Responsibilities :
- Provide regional safety support to promote a positive safety culture in the assigned safety region while collaborating closely with operational and functional leadership regarding practices, policies and training.
- Focus messaging and training on the mindset of positively reinforcing SAFE behaviors and providing coaching and feedback for UNSAFE behaviors
- Conduct train the trainer courses for behavioral safety observations, coaching and feedback
- Analyze and interpret BBS Mobile Module leading indicators entered into Riskonnect to proactively prevent incidents by partnering with sites to understand and utilize data
- Support safety compliance by rolling out and implementing corporate safety policies and standards to each location within the assigned region.
- Ensure safety training requirements are met by each location within the assigned region.
- Assist in developing regular safety messages in conjunction with the corporate communications department as required.
- Providing reference materials and attending regional safety conference calls.
- Participating in site safety committee meetings at sites as requested.
- Participate in safety audits across assigned safety region, coordinate corrective actions with operation management, and provide notification of deficiencies and corrective actions.
- Partner with regional Safety Champions as needed in all of the above.
- Provide leadership during 5 Why root cause analysis within the assigned region :
- Participate in safety investigations relevant to events occurring within the assigned region.
- Ensure corrective actions entered in Riskonnect are purposeful, complete, and implemented. Report all investigations and corrective actions to Sr. Manager and regional leadership.
- Ensure timely notification for all serious events is made to Sr. Manager.
- Coordinate and collaborate with Sr. Manager on all OSHA agency level audits & activity within the assigned region.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
