NGM is currently offering an opportunity for an independent and highly motivated Scientist (level commensurate with experience) to join our drug discovery team. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, self-motivated, willing to take on new challenges, and maintain professionalism working in a face-paced environment. This role is perfect for a life sciences research professional with robust benchwork experience, looking to make meaningful contributions to the advancement of oncology drug development.
Responsibilities:
- Work in a highly collaborative team focused on advancing in vitro efforts within our drug discovery program.
- Design and perform in vitro experiments with minimal oversight.
- Experience maintaining mammalian cell cultures, ideally in the context of cell-based drug screening.
- Experience conducting basic laboratory techniques like PCR, nucleic-acid and protein extraction, Western Blot, bacterial cultures, etc.
- Experience with modern molecular/cell/biochemistry techniques to perform high-throughput screening assays for antibody characterization and interrogate cellular functions.
- Experience with microscopy-based bioassays (for example: Incucyte), including live cell imaging.
- Experience with flow cytometry for a variety of cell-based in vitro assays
- Use GraphPad Prism and Excel to analyze data.
- Present data and results in project team meetings
- Design, execute, and modify existing protocols to support evolving needs of the project team.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across multiple departments to support drug discovery efforts.
- Practice meticulous data entry and documentation.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required:
- BA/BS or M.S degree in Biological Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related field
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a drug discovery research environment (biotech/pharma/CRO)
- Experience initiating and modifying complex protocols to tailor discovery initiatives.
- Demonstrated scientific productivity as evidenced by a record of advancing drug development candidates or by a record of high impact publications.
- Excellent communication skills and desire to share knowledge and experience with junior staff.
- Excellent written, presentation, and oral communication skills
- Familiarity with protein and antibody structure/behavior interrogate new biology questions.
- Diverse research expertise with a variety of modalities is highly desirable.
Position is based at NGM Bio’s South San Francisco office location with expectation for regular on-site presence.

At the time of posting, the wage range for this role at the Associate Scientist level is $107,400 to $139,000, and Scientist I level is $112,100 - $145,000 per year for candidates located in the Bay Area. For applicants outside of the Bay Area, the pay range may adjust according to geographic compensation data.
