Applications are invited for Consultant in Older Adult Psychiatry who have completed CCT or are within 6 months of doing so with Section 22 AMP status.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our enthusiastic, patient centred and dynamic Liaison Older Adult Mental Health team based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary which is part of the wider Glasgow City Old Age Liaison team and Greater Glasgow and Clyde Old Age Psychiatry family; the largest health board in Scotland. This offers many opportunities for quality improvement, teaching, training and research.

This 10 session post is primarily based in Glasgow Royal Infirmary (GRI) and the successful applicant will work alongside another experienced fulltime consultant old age psychiatrist in a newly expanded service serving the hospitals of the North of Glasgow. In addition to the acute care provided in GRI, there are satellite hospitals in Lightburn, Stobhill and Gartnavel General (all North of Glasgow City) which are slower stream wards and include geriatric and medical rehabilitation.

The Glasgow City liaison team have a current total of 4 consultant psychiatrists (2.8 WTE), 8 band 6 liaison nurses, 1.5 WTE Psychology and a Nurse Team Lead. There is Admin support for the role.

There is expectation to be part of the North Glasgow rota on-call (1:25 at least). The on-call almost always has a second on higher trainee up to 3am each day. After 3 years there is opportunity to request to come off the on-call rota. This will be agreed via Clinical Directors.

The successful applicant will play a key role in the diagnosis and management of older people with mental health disorders in in the setting of an acute hospital site, working alongside Consultant psychiatry colleagues and the wider MDT. The clinical work is varied and will include general hospital assessment and management of older people with mental health needs, mental health act and adults with incapacity act work, attendance at case conferences and the provision of support and advice to other professionals within acute hospital. The successful candidate will take on a clinical leadership role and take part in ongoing service development within the wider Glasgow Older Adult liaison service.

Applications for less than full time working can be considered. There also may be option for additional EPA depending on service requirement which would be agreed through job planning.
