We are looking to recruit a Band 6 Intellectual Disability Charge Nurse to our multi-disciplinary inpatient team at Midpark Hospital, which is located in the town of Dumfries.

The main purpose of the role will be to provide clinical leadership within the integrated model to deliver evidence based best practice and positive behavioural support interventions, for individuals who require inpatient care and treatment.

The post holder will also support the clinical supervision and development of the inpatient intellectual disability nurse team.

A core aspect of this role will be the development of the inpatient intellectual disability service, by creating a care pathway and leading quality improvement and service development initiatives. We would welcome applicants with this experience or transferable skills.

This post is also open to mental health nurses with a particular interest in intellectual disabilities, and the desired clinical, leadership and quality improvement skills.

Midpark is the region’s acute mental health hospital which opened in 2012, receiving accolades and an award for its design. We provide a contemporary approach to providing quality healthcare within the inpatient environment for up to 81 patients; across 6 wards, including Adult, Older Adult, IPCU; Dementia; and Rehabilitation Services.

The post holder will be expected to participate in the role of nominated hospital lead for the hospital, and includes shift and weekend working, along with escort on call duties.

A full induction will be given, and the successful candidate will engage in a personalised plan for supervision, personal/professional development planning and relevant training, depending on their experience and objectives.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
