Are you looking for a job in Emergency Medicine that treats you as an asset rather than simply a name on a rota?

Are you looking for a job that gives you the opportunity to develop your CV and skills with a day a week of non-clinical time?

If you are passionate about medical education and looking for a role with greater work/life balance then an Emergency Medicine CTF post in Ayrshire may be just the opportunity you are looking for.

The Clinical Teaching Fellow will focus on the organisation, development and provision of teaching to undergraduate medical students from Glasgow University. The successful candidate will spend approximately 8-12 hours per week on a mixture of bedside teaching and facilitated tutorials. Pursuit of a qualification in medical education is encouraged and fully funded.

The balance of time will be in clinical practice with protected time for personal development (audit, research and/or completion of certificate course in medical education). This contributes to the on-call rota but there are no night shifts. This post therefore attracts a 40% banding supplement Base on a salary range of £45,504 - £71,550. The appointment will be whole time for the duration of 12 months commencing 7 August 2024 and will be situated entirely at Crosshouse Emergency department.

With respect to the clinical hours to be delivered these posts will be unique in the West of Scotland as successful candidates will have access to an online and mobile phone application which will enable them to manage their own shift pattern. Healthrota software will allow individuals to self-roster their clinical time, choose leave and facilitate more straight forward exchange of shifts therefore providing the opportunity for a much greater work/life balance. Annual leave is also not fixed to certain weeks of a rota pattern.

This highly sought after post is suited to trainees who have satisfactorily completed foundation training or can demonstrate equivalent competencies, and wish to develop skills in medical education or clinical research. The posts would also be highly suited to any candidate who has completed ACCS training and wishes to develop sub-specialty experience and improve their CV prior to specialty training application.

Funding toward a post graduate certificate in medical education is available. Alternatively successful candidates may opt to undertake their own portfolio of development aligned to their personal needs and career aspirations. Where an appointee decides not to enrol in the certificate course in medical education, up to £1,250 will be made available to support funding of personal development activities, which must be agreed with the Clinical Supervisor/Assistant Director of Medical Education

Please note that these posts do not carry educational approval with the Dean.

You will be fully registered with the GMC with a current Licence to Practice, and must have completed foundation or equivalent training. Evidence of an interest in, and an aptitude for teaching would be advantageous.
