What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Technician position at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center?
Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center is looking for a Medical Technologists to join our team!
Essential Functions:
1. May collect specimens for laboratory testing as required appropriate to the age of the patient (neonate, pediatric, adult or geriatric) under the philosophy, policies and procedures established by the hospital and department.
2. Prepares specimens for analysis according to the laboratory’s standard operating procedure (SOP).
3. Determines acceptability of samples within established guidelines.
4. Performs routine and limited special tests and procedures following the laboratory’s SOP.
5. Operates and calibrates all laboratory instruments to ensure accuracy.
6. Performs quality control and quality assurance procedures within established parameters.
7. Reports test results, recognizes abnormal results, unexpected results, errors and problems, and refers them to the supervisor or more senior technologist.
8. Performs all preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs on laboratory equipment.
9. Evaluates and validates new methodologies when appropriate.
10. Evaluates and performs competency assessments on all Lab Assistants or those that perform those job duties.
11. Provides limited education and training of staff as needed.
12. Maintains competency by attending all mandatory continuing education (CE) programs and a minimum of twelve documented hours of job specific CE programs.
Education and Experience:
A.S.C.P. Certification/NYS License
A.A.S in Medical Technology
NYS License
